"Ours always stay up longer."
I thought it was a pretty good coincidence that this pic went up on failblog the day of this thread.

Looking at the ample base coming out of the ground, it should be able to withstand anything that hits it.I was also wondering what's the amount of head winds that this massive erection can withstand.

Never.Gonna.Happen.
1. The 'problem' is highly exaggerated. 90% of the crowd missing at the beginning of the 3rd is due to people waiting in line for restrooms or our our slow-*** concessions. If you watch the band and go for concessions\restrooms, you usually will miss half the 3rd.
2. Those that benefit most from being able to leave and come back are those in the close lots. Those are bigger donors. No need to needlessly **** off a bunch of donors.
3. If you get rid of reentry, some of those are still going to leave at half, theyre just never going to come back in.
Concessions are an important part of that. We really struggle to have some sort of efficiency in those lines.
Even if it's a different crew back there each week, it's not rocket science. If you're raising funds back there, you'd think there would be an incentive to be efficient and get customers through.
I think that re-entry is dead the day that the south endzone is enclosed. That's because they'll add another set of restrooms/concessions, making it 1.5x what they have now. Until that is finished, re-entry will live on!!!
I doubt third quarter re-entry will ever go away. Too much $ in the RV's close to the stadium that take full advantage of the time. For those of us with kids, it's great. Gives me a chance to take my daughter to the RV and let her snack and run around a bit. If it's a night game, half is great for getting her to bed.
So, the general consensus seems to be the the board is big and people are OK with the giant steel structure. Reading the board correct? I took some pictures of the board from various spots in Jack Trice after the cranes got it up on Wednesday around 1 AM. The top of steel is higher than the top of concrete at the top of the upper deck, but below the top of lights. She's big.
You seem to know a little about the project. Are they planning on doing something to the bottom of the supports? Some sort of concrete shell or vinyl "wrap"? Because if they don't do something, drunk people ARE going to climb them.
Personally... I like the ISU marching band. They do a great job IMO in keeping the crowd involved and playing the right tunes at the right time to get the crowd jacked up or to keep them entertained during slow parts of the game. With that being said I can say that I have never once watched one of their halftime shows. Never. I love the atmosphere of college football, the crowd, the bands, cheer squads, student section, GIGANTIC VIDEO BOARDS, the cannon, etc... but I am there to watch football and if I don't want to miss much of the game I will jet for halftime with a minute or two left in the first half and make it back to my seat typically just as the second half is getting started. Does it really matter if I went out to the lots to enjoy a couple of ice cold beers, or to the restroom, or to get food? Not really.
Those who think that people should not be allowed to go out during halftime need to get over it. Go up to Camp Randall stadium at Wisconsin and watch a game. Their student section is typically half full when the game starts as they are finishing up tailgating. It is also known as one of the best gameday experiences in the entire country. They do not allow people to go out during the games up there... once you are out you are out. Thus people just take their sweet *** time getting into the game in the first place and there are those that will leave early regardless. No matter what you do or what rules they put into place it will just cause a different problem or potentially more problems.
You know, I've been hearing this a lot, but are the cross bars even close enough together to let you climb them? If they're 5-7 feet apart, how are you going to climb very high?

I was just in Brookings for work this morning. I should have stopped at Daktronics to take a peek at the video boardJust to clarify the LED panels are made in Brookings SD. I know because I used to work there. They do all the soldering and everything there.
I'd imagine it's easier than shimmying up the uprights of the goalpost.

I have some advice for them:
1. Get a freaking ATM card reader at every register!
2. Clone cones...why isn't there a stand for these?
3. Let the added vendor stands (Philly sandwiches, corn dogs, etc) sell water and soda too.
4. Sell vendor permits for OUTSIDE the stadium. Maybe just one small area north of the Olsen Bldg.
Do we know for sure what will be displayed? Instant Replays? Vintage flashbacks? ISU promos? Interviews? Crowd shots? Geico commercials?
