KU's new basketball dorm plan, $17.5mil

Sickening. Great job NCAA. Schools don't even have to hide their cheating anymore. They are essentially building a house for each athlete. Sad times.

Smart move by KU. We should do the same thing. KU isn't stupid, they know it pays for itself down the road....

This shouldn't be any big surprise coming from a team that up until just a few years ago was quite openly giving their athletes huge cash payments at the end of season banquet as soon as they had exhausted their eligibility.

Weis has to be ******. They still play in a ****** stadium with a track around it being a laughing stock while they spend 17+ million on an already successful basketball program.

Oh they are removing a track around the field either this year or next because of new track/field complex.

What? They announce the players, everyone applauds, and a donor hands them an envelope of cash? Seriously, what is the evidence of cash payments being given "quite openly?" Wouldn't the more-academic-than-thou faculty blow the whistle?

This is excessive and what not but schools are also building huge rec buildings, and other facilities, that have nothing to do with education/learning to entice regular students to attend.

College is big business now.

You do not see the difference? The argument is not that this has nothing to do with learning.

Well the current system is doing a great job of having recruits not pick the blue-bloods (sarcasm).

Right, but this will just take us back to the days similar to unlimited scholarships. Texas will go ahead and pay players they would have normally not given a scholarship to, more than other schools can, just to keep them away from any other school. At least now there are scholarship limits, so you've at least got a chance once the blue-bloods give out all their shollies.

Not saying that everything right now is the way it should be, but open the door to pay for play and there are really only a handful of schools that can participate in that market. ISU certainly isn't one of them.

I agree. Just pointing out a lot of schools are spending a lot of money to lure all kids to school.

I'm not surprised, and don't care, that KU is doing this. The NCAA is a joke.

True. And making future students pay for it, such as with the new Rec facilities that was funded by bonds to be paid by student fees over many years.
