KU's new basketball dorm plan, $17.5mil

And how was the reaction to that from your fanbase?

Jealousy mostly. Some indignant outrage but mostly like "crap, our guys are staying in old Jayhawk towers".

Its a recruiting advantage but this has little to do with ISU or any other Big 12 school. KU is competing against bigger fish in recruiting.

I see a lot of outrage but KU is not the first to do this, nor will they be the last to do this. And When ISU does it, what will your reaction be?

It is kind of like the Brady Bunch.......there are Jack and Jill bathrooms where the players bedrooms are connected to the Big 12 referees bedrooms.

Uh, Rashad Vaughn has ISU and KU in his final 5.
Yeah, but the thinking around KU is we wont have a scholly to offer him anyway.

We got OUbre and Alexander and are leading for Turner. Wiggins, Black and Embiid are gone next year but that looks like the only ones leaving. Unless Selden continues to tear it up like he has the last two games everyone else will be back and we wont have room for Vaughn. Still recruiting him but I dont think the staff is going hard after him anymore.

FWIW most KU fans would rather him end up at ISU if not KU from what I read on scout.

I would be very happy. However, I think this is more of a criticism of the hypocrisy of the NCAA than anything Kansas has done. A player can't have someone buy them a meal at McDonalds, but they can live in a multi-million dollar building.

Yawn, it is just Bill Self's way of fencing his boys in to keep them out of jail. You cannot expect the one and done guys to actually go to class or spend time in front of a book.
Kansas is the only school in D1 that has had a perfect APR score every year.

EVERY college student that lives in a dorm lives in a multi-million dollar building. You cannot build even plain concrete block dorms for under $4-$5 million.

You mean "Jayhawker Towers," right? I don't even live in Lawrence, and I know they're called...

Beaker Towers?

Nice to know KU is dropping football and laying bling on their vaunted BB program. These losers need something to cheer about.

Why are people so bent out of shape about this? This has been going on a long as there have been sports in college. When I was there in 1998 UF just opened dorms for athletes that were smack dab in the middle of all the athletic complexes. They are probably a little dated now, but same concept. And they were half athletes, half students. Not only do these kind of dorms make it easier to bring in athletes but it makes them easier to monitor and keep them in one place. ISU just needs to get on board and build 'dorms' connected to the Sukup facility.

Because it's Kansas and the number sounds big at first glance. That's it.
It really doesn't matter. Good for them and all that.

But will they still have a track around the football field?
Good question. They're building a new track, softball, soccer facility but until it's done the answer to your question is sadly...yes. I think it's almost done so actually the track might be gone but Memorial remodeling announcements haven't been made yet so I would guess it will probably still at least have the space where the track was if it's removed.

Yep, Rock Chalk Park should be done in time for the relays this spring. It's really nice. I imagine track will be out after next football season but you may see something covering it this year. Rumors from friends in AD have them going to announce renovation plan by the end of the school year, maybe sooner. They want to go big but are still negotiating with some big boosters (ie Cerner). They won't announce anything until funding is completely in place (after the Gridiron club debacle )

Donors must be stepping up since last I recall, KU had a pretty hefty debt load for the AD.
Money hasn't been a real problem with KU. Hiring a competent football coach has. Or keeping one. Congrats on picking our last competent coach up.
