I’ll sum up my position like this. I don’t believe they are going to do any better, and small improvement is better than they will get.

More season tix sold with mew HC? Yes. More wins? No.
I guess my counter-argument would be that they can’t really do any worse than him, may do better, and they’ll sell more tickets.

I’d also argue that pretty much any improvement you’ve seen this year is because he recruited a ton of juco guys. It is not sustainable, and when your “best” is three wins and even that requires overloading on jucos, why would you bring him back.

He got fired immediately after losing to ISU, so you know, I disagree. Timing means something.
He got fired immediately after we brought 2X as many fans to their stadium as they did, and their players were vocal about how much they disliked it. How many TCU fans showed up? Or OSU? Surely not as many as ISU fans yesterday. They had announced attendance of 24k and 28k for their first two home games, then 18k for OSU, 15k for TCU, and 15.5k (half Cyclones) for ISU.

Here is the problem with Beaty, He was a cheap hire, to move the program forward. In hopes to separate it from the woes of years past. In the hopes that it would accomplish a couple things, make people forget about those woes, and manage to at least gain a tiny amount of success. These things they wanted to do quietly and cheaply, and picked the safe option when it came to a coach, someone who they did not have a lot of confidence in getting them very far, but hoped to get by for a few years.
These things they did not accomplish, for a couple reasons, Beaty did not last long enough to garner any confidence in the program or how it is managed, and he did not establish enough success for the program to build on.
During his career and looking at this year it may look like he improved as the years have passed, if you look at the on field production and wins vs losses you might have a valid argument. But you have to look at the overall condition of the program. They currently have their best and most experienced team under Beaty, thus they are losing a fairly large number of players after this year. Their recruiting has been terrible and getting worse each year under Beaty. They have a total of 1 recruit signed for next year. So with all the gains he has made it appears he was going to make a meteoric fall in the next couple years, even lower than they are already. The lack of success and fickle fan base has garnered no support which not only has stalled any hope of facility upgrades but has put a huge damper on recruiting and coach hires.
It appears Beaty may have hit his max potential this year. Can they get something better? I am sure they can, but it is going to be a difficult climb and it is going to take not only a special coach but possibly a succession of special coaches and a long haul to get there. With a supportive fan base and a supportive administration along the way, something I am not sure Kansas has.
Kansas Is in worse shape than I think Iowa State has ever been in for this reason. During the tough years we still had great fan support and that kept the program going. Kansas lacks this.
From the point our administration switched gears and started supporting the program, it has taken many years and several coaches and Hundreds of millions of dollars in facility upgrades to get to where we are today. And at this point we are still a building program.
Along the way the fan support has always been there, something that has helped us fill the stadium, raise money, lure recruits, impress coaches, and put Ames on the college football map.

Ehhh...there were rumors that he left on less than good terms last year.

If we have to replace Campbell, I think our pick will depend on where he goes. If Campbell goes to the Browns, I highly doubt that they will let him bring in his entire staff. In that case, I think you try to keep the current staff together. If he goes to Ohio State, Campbell might be able to bring most everyone with him. In that case, you follow the same plan and go hire some guy who will bring everyone he knows.

For what it's worth, the Kansas equivalent of WideRight took Candle off their wish list.

The Kansas AD has his hands full dealing with the MBB issues and now he has to hire a football coach. It could also be a diversion so people don't ask as many questions about MBB.

Wasn't Long fired from Arkansas? Look at the state of affairs at Arkansas.

Good luck to whoever takes that spot. They graduate the vast majority of talent they do have, they literally don't have a 2019 recruiting class, fan support is non existent and the work it will take to overcome the overall perception of the program will be monumental.

Unless you're an aging coach looking for one last pay check I cannot think of a single reason why you would take that spot if you have any other possible options.
They actually do have a few young guys that have some talent. I think they should hire someone like Bob Davie who is coaching a losing Mountain West team but has done some good things throughout his career.

Stewart Mandell and Bruce Feldman were very critical of him during the offseason.

What will do KU football the most good is KSU parting ways with Bill Snyder.

KU is at a point you need to get the local kids that can be used as a core to build around. They need KSU to suck while rebuilding to help with that.

No coach is going to want to come there if worth their salt because look at the result of the last 5 guys who did. Why take a career stopper? You're going to need a guy who can be straight up bought or needs a redemption.

This is a 4 to 5 year build just to be bowl eligible. Beatty was undermined in recruiting with the we are evaluating messages from the AD. What recruit would commit in that circumstance?

They were getting better, the AD just put them back another 2 years and probably is not going to get a new coach worth a lick.

Kansas fans really anticipating that they'll get miles. Be really impressive getting him when they couldnt even get a coordinator as a head coach last time around.

Same thing people said about ISU with Mac and Rhoads, and they were clearly wrong. Success of Mason and Mangino suggest they are wrong about KU too. They pulled in some decent talent in past classes and weren't competitive at all. They graduate a lot of starters and have nothing Coming in.
With Mac and Rhoads the trend was bad and getting worse. Iowa State LOOKED like a poorly coached team, especially on offense. Yesterday, Kansas looked like a well-coached team that was just over-matched. They had a couple of dropped passes as well, one of which would have been a touchdown. It's nearly impossible to build a winning program with that level of fan support. Facility improvements? Where's the money coming from? Big name coach? Where's the money coming from? Recruiting? Who wants to go play in an empty stadium?

I originally laughed at it, but the more I think about it, the more I’m intrigued by it. Les Miles may just be crazy enough to do it.

It's clueless to think they fired him because they lost to Iowa State. They fired him because Kansas put MAYBE 10,000 Kansas fans in the stands. And because they have one commit for 2019. And because he has shown very little improvement.

I doubt they can get a coach to do anything there, but they've got to be able to sell a tiny bit of hope.

They have to get a name in there to just get a full class signed it appears.

After years of doing it about our own program, i think a lot of ISU fans are conditioned to look for signs of improvement in bad programs that may or may not be actual signs.

How many times did people convince themselves that Rhoads was actually turning things around?

Yeah, I think they’re still subconsciously comparing ISU to Kansas or something so they’re trying to legitimize Kansas so they can legitimize ISU. It’s ******* weird though.
