KSU @ ISU Postgame Thread******

The game wasnt lost on DG's horrible shot. We lost because we gave up a crucial three pointer, AGAIN. Being up by 4, AGAIN. and Ejim not stepping out to contest the shot, AGAIN.

Thank you. We were up, what, 6 points with a minute and a half or so to go? If we get stops we win. That's the way it was for Okie State, thats the way it was for Oklahoma. The fact of the matter is we shouldn't put our self in a position to have to get that last second bucket. Hedge screens, get out on shooters, rebound the ball.

Scotty and Melvin just looked lost defensively today.

You are absolutely correct.

But when we do end up in the position where we don't get the stops and need to score, the coaches need to have learned three identical losses ago that something isn't working with the only end-of-game play they run.

This is falling as much on the coaches as it is on the players.

Every other team in the league knows that it is going to be left in DG's hands. EVERY TEAM! Time to change it up some how...be a little unpredictable.

I would prefer, of course that they never get to that situation. Stop trying to protect leads in the last 3 minutes, and keep the pressure on. Just seems like the team and coaches lose their heads in the last 3 minutes.

Ejim needs to step it up on defense at last minute.

Lets think about this logically and also consider that the coaches spend 7 days a week with their players. Coach Hoiberg and his staff clearly know how the last 5 close games have gone, and they know which play they have gone to in the end. These coaches, all being bright basketball minds, realize that the play has not worked. So I would imagine they have explored other options, in practice or otherwise, and still feel this is their best option to score. These guys know what their players are capable of, and I trust that knowing full well that the high ball screen, shooter in the corner iso play hasn't worked well still believe that this is their best chance at success.

Coach Hoiberg sure doesn't come off as a stubborn, self-centered person. With McD, it seemed like alot of it was an ego thing-- he thought his style should work, he thought his plays would work. Hoiberg seems like he would be open to running other plays at the end of the game if he thought they'd give them a better chance to succeed, but apparently they dont. I see no reason not to trust our coaches, who eat, sleep and breath basketball, in these situations.

Great game. Tons of fun. Well worth the 5 bucks a ticket for going.

Cant wait until we have a full squad. Its going to be an amazing style to watch.

This loss didnt mean a lot whole lot by now. having 2-3 wins is pretty much the same.

A couple of games ago I suggested that the staff put the ball in Bubu's hands down the last few minutes of the games. I was mocked. My thinking was this: 1) get it out of DG's hands so he can't choke 2) It would catch the other teams by surprise because they wouldn't be planning for this 3) Bubu is very adapt at getting by his man and many times when he does, he gets fouled 4) With the game on the line the refs have quick whistles 5) Bubu can make the FT's when fouled. After the last couple of games, this doesn't seem so outlandish anymore.

When Bubu goes to the rim it either ends up in a flailing awful shot or a foul. With 30 seconds left, you probalby don't get the foul call, leaving you with a flailing awful shot. Much the same could be said about Jake Anderson.

I didn't get to see the end of the game but once i saw final score on phone I just knew exactly how it ended. I come here and read the post game and no surprise.

It's pathetic that this is like a broken record.

Our three point defense needs to improve. This is probably a matter of improving our athleticism though to get to the shooters....I think this is a case where even though we give great effort, defense does require some talent (athleticism).

I am really dissapointed in Jamie's effort though....does he even care out there?

this is why he was always in the doghouse with McD. No effort, no heart.

Then what do you suggest? ISO Scotty, you think that would yield a better result? Let JVB post up? Ejim drive? Jake drive to the rim? What scenario would you rather see than Diante going to the basket-- what gives us a better chance of winning?
It would be no worse thsn what we are seeing.

I would shoot threes all day against our matador defense. They had ten wide open shots for threes. Unbelievable.

I work nights so I was sleeping but when I read how the game ended I knew immediately that Hoiberg called the wonderful clear out set for DG at the end of the game. Sure enough when I pulled it up on my DVR I was correct. This has failed at least six times this year. Six times!! Why not run the normal offense at that point? Scotty made a nice move and made a shot with around a minute to go in a normal set. The other teams know this is coming and DG has yet to pass the ball out of this set. If he manages to avoid a turnover he takes a very poor shot with a low percentage of success. I don't know if they are hoping for a foul call or what but you can not count on that at the end of a close game. And, had we went quicker at the end we could have had a good chance to have 2 possessions to their 1. But we bleed the clock and blow another game.

This season reminds me of an old saying. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. We are at that point.

DG has run the same play at the end of the half almost every game. He gets a good look and nails that shot 60% of the time. Maybe its time to try something new, however stick to your guns now. He has gotten us this far, the season is lost - stick by your senior leader. The hardest game winner to hit is the first one.

I looked at the score, and just thought "Ah. Shocker."

All I can say is that I'm glad I didn't know when we played today.
See you guys next season!
