Unless the rules have changed the scholarship would count against Football. Campbell may not want a part time QB as he continues to build culture.

Plus if Brock has a solid year. Chubba may decide to come in and redshirt during his brother's final (JR) season.

Looking at his list unfortunately Kansas looks like the perfect fit. Quality basketball a bit on the desperate side and a football team just desperate.

Good point. I forgot about the scholly counting against football. Campbell would have to be fully on board. Although, his scholly would not count until he actually participated in a game. There have been other players on the team who didn't take a FB scholly until they played - Andy Kohler (track scholly) for example. He could start practicing and see where he sat in the fight for playing time before decisions had to be made.

No college coach really wants him to play both sports if they are being honest about it, but if that's what he wants (right now) and that's what it takes to get him to their school that's what they will say.

Let him sort it all out when he gets here. Some kids think they want to play 2 sports in college until they actually play 2 sports

You would think that Campbell would be willing to do this solid for the basketball program if it came down to that. It would only be one scholarship for possibly as little as one season. The two programs are interdependent -- basketball and Hilton are recruiting tools for the football team in the winter to showcase the fan base, facilities, and keeps fans interested, and football games serve the exact same role for the basketball team in the fall period.

Actually it does matter.

If he believes he's one and done he's not coming to sit behind Purdy. CMC brings in a part time commit it affects the culture of the program.

I'm always curious as to how that works. Would he miss the entire non-conference basketball season every year? If we play in a bowl game, he wouldn't join the team util January. It seems like it would be halfway through conference play before he even gets incorporated into the line up and develops chemistry with the rest of the team.

Charlie Ward seemed to make it work...(oops didn't read the whole thread and now see someone else already posted this.)

If he is a one and done he is more worried about basketball. But if the football part is what makes him commit in all for it.

With a football/basketball combination, I was curious about how that breaks with the teams chasing him. The schools listed as "warm" for him on 247 are:

Gonzaga
Florida
Georgetown
Kansas
Marquette
Minnesota
West Virginia

https://247sports.com/Recruitment/Jalen-Suggs-98260/RecruitInterests/

Clearly, that's a disadvantage for Gonzaga, Georgetown and Marquette, and of the remaining, I think it could be argued that we have the best (or at least, one of the best) combination of programs.
You would put us ahead of Florida? The football program is improving a ton, but no way would our football and basketball combined come close to Florida at this point. I also think that if he wants to play both sports that Kansas can be thrown away from this list.

This situation reminds me a little bit of Tyrelle Pryor, but in reverse. Pryor was a four star shooting guard in addition to being the top football recruit, and he was considering both sports, but ended up going with just football. If Suggs ends up going basketball only (which I think will be what he chooses), then we are definitely on the outside looking in.

Of course, Campbell would probably be willing to do it if it was really necessary for Prohm. However, it is hard for me to imagine that he would want someone spending their off-season doing something other than "winning in the dark."

What color is the sky in your world?
Your truly saying you have a problem with Campbell giving a player a spot for 1 Year if that means the Mens Basketball Team gets a Top 10 5 Star player? Getting him to add to Craig McDonald may increase Iowa States chances to pick up 4 Star OLB Kaden Johnson as well since they are all friends. I don't see anything bad with Campbell taking one for the team and helping Prohm out.

Antonio Gates for Kent State, great college basketball player. Would've been in the NBA if he was 4-5 inches taller. Was gonna play football for Saban at Michigan State, but Saban didn't like sharing with Izzo. Gates ended up at Kent State where he still only played basketball. Turned out football was the way to go after all.

If he's truly a 1 and done guy, I don't see it. He's going to go through an entire football season likely riding the bench as a true freshman, then leave for the NBA? What would be the point?

Is this a situation where he's better at basketball, but likes football better?
