Jake Hummel commits

Looks a little slow. Hopefully will be a solid contributor.

Umm he ran a 22 sec 200..that's not slow. He doesn't seem to have the side to side quickness yet but his straight ahead speed to get to ball is really good..he's an animal..completely in the mold of another Jake we know. I'll be surprised if he isn't a 2-3 year starter.

Always good to grab a central Iowa guy, especially with ISU ties. He's a wait and see guy, IMO. Doesn't jump out on video and Dowling and Valley guys haven't translated to Big 12 talent in the past. Hopefully he's more Jake Knott and less Trent Flander.
Name one in the past 10 years

Agree on the current ranking. However I look at it like a GPA. Easier to keep it high once it's there than to bring it back up after you've tanked it. Plus it's something they can sell on the trail to other guys.

It's not a bad thing, in fact it is a good thing. I just think it's overplayed this early.

I called this top 25 class months ago. Don't know much about Hummel but glad he is on board. I think this class will end up around #21 or #22 when it's all said and done. Getting Kam White has to be out next priority.

I can think of two without much thought Jake McDonough & Kirby Van Der Kamp.

Jake williams, Jake McDonough, Jake Campos. Another Jake from des Moines sounds good to me.

Isn't Piersbacher that starts for Alabama a Dowling kid too?

Pretty sure Hoiball was trying to get SolarGarlic to name one (scholarship) player from Valley or Dowling who hasn't panned out in the Big 12 in the last 10 years.

And Pierschbacher is from Cedar Falls IIRC

Let's pump the brakes.

2016's #21,#22,#23 stacked next to our current 2017 class:

In order to finish anywhere near #20, we would need to almost completely stop getting 3* kids and start getting 4* kids exclusively with maybe a 5* added in for flavoring. I mean, that ain't happenin'.

I would be happy with a top 40 class this year.

It's unbelievable how much better at just about everything this staff is than Paul's. I understand they haven't won any games yet, but Paul's barely did anyway.

So yeah, it's better but we probably should act like they've drastically changed the talent level being brought in (according to rankings) at this point. They also haven't taken any flyers yet and I promise you they will. I know I'll be called a Debbie Downer for this but the reality is that their recruiting is as good as their evaluation and right now, it's impossible to know how good they are at that. At those rating points, it's all about evaluation. Prospects rated in that 78-88 range aren't sure things and it's about finding the ones who are actually going to contribute.

This staff has done everything right and expecting more would be asinine at this point, but at the same time, reality is that they are a little bit better based off rankings and even offers.

I think we might be witnessing an interesting juxtaposition here: the Power of Personality symbiotically combined with a quality institution that is on a mission to achieve athletic superiority without sacrificing academic integrity.

I don't know a thing about sales or salesmen, but I intuit that the best salesman is a true believer, in himself and in his product. I'm guessing CMC and his staff fit that description. I'm not sure I have the imagination to in any other way account for the success we've had in football recruiting the last 4-1/2 months.

We have an exceptional university and community, the greatest of fans, a savvy and dedicated leadership team academically and athletically. . . .

Maybe, just maybe, this is our time.

Jake Hummel and his eight compadres (so far) are the leading wave of a sea change. The surf is up. On the horizon dark clouds are accumulating, spreading, enveloping the heavens. A menacing, powerful storm is brewing. . . .

(What? I'm having fun! Don't get carried away with the Kool Aid stuff. But, I do believe we fans are witness to a special time in ISU football fortunes.)

Uh, I guess I don't get it. By 247 our current class is ranked, what, 28th? Does this not matter? I'm serious when I ask this question, I don't want to don the rose-colored glasses. What is it you're saying, when comparing past recruiting finishes with where we are today?

I agree that the real comparison will be player development, that was clearly CPR's downfall. IMO the thing that to this point would put this staff above the last is that they are getting the kids they want early. CPR was piecing together his classes during the season or a lot of the time in January and February. That tells me this staff has a better idea of exactly what kind of kids they want. CPR was notorious for finishing off classes with kids that he could get, not necessarily kids that fit into a system. Another big difference is the positions this staff has recruited, they have already brought in 11 or 12 lineman, in less than two classes.

All in all it seems like recruiting is going the right way but in the end attitude is going to go a long way with these kids. If these kids believe they can win will be huge
