ISU offers DE

Red Shirts this next year and if he puts in the effort I could see him being a guy that can at least come in a give guys a quick rest if needed

His speed on the edge is impressive and he seems to have good technique

Does anybody know how our redshirt DLs from this year are doing? Coach Rhoads was pretty high on them at last year's CF Recruitment Day party. He talked about how they are coming with bodies that are more ready than some of our current DLs for whom it took a lot to get their bodies where they needed to be.

I would guess most of them get a lot of PT. I have only heard good things.

Any in particular that stand out? I've heard general things about the group, but nothing specific like we hear about other positions, like QB with Rohach.

I don't know anything like that, but the coaching staff so far seems to just love to have a huge rotation of guys, and I think that is something they bring.

Bevins and Aka are the ones I get the feeling I've heard the most about, but Meyers, Cousin, and Mitchell seem to be doing well too. Add them to Morrissey, Kron, Krick, (as Ribsnwhiskey pointed out, Irving) and Jenson and we have a very good group of non seniors. Woods and Scott are the only two seniors we have.

Late fall in one of his call-in shows, CPR said he was not happy with the young DLs, he was thrilled with them. Said something about he expects to have another 12-man or so rotation on the D-line next fall, they'll be capable guys just not as experienced as the 2012 group.

He looks like a nice athlete on the videos. Clearly he will have to get bigger but I like his feet and he has decent height, and also looks liked he's had some decent coaching. The decommit of Suttles hurts no doubt, but Madison looks like he has the tools just needs more time. We've had multi-year starters in the past 6-7 years who aren't as good of an athlete as Madison.

Cheers

You're forgetting the one that stands out the most...

My buddy from HS in 1988 went to Iowa and was roommates with Bielema. Both of them were 6-5ish and around the 200# mark out of high school. Both ended up as interior linemen when it was all said and done. Both pushing 300. Of course who knows what the Iowa training staff was putting into them. My only point is that you draft athletes and build the body around them.

Very nice to hear this. However, it is one thing to have a solid rotation (which worked pretty well for us at times this year), but quite another to have a few guys step up and make it so we really hesitate to take them off the field. Hopefully, next season will see a few guys emerge into this role.

Ready for Bevins, Aka, Pompey, and Irving to start reaching their potential. I know Aka and Bevins are both supposed to move inside, but it would be real nice if one of them could stick at DE giving us a very high potential DL.

You mean, like 1st team all conference Jake McDonough?

Finally got a chance to watch this kid's videos, and I'm more excited about his future potential at DE than I was about Irving. The reason being is that Irving has slow feet and this kid has quick feet.

Irving has the great size, but he's one of the slowest DE's I've seen at getting off the ball and getting a step on the O-lineman. I'm not sure if he will ever get the quick feet he needs to get pressure on the QB? It's tough to teach quick feet. That's one of those things you either have or you don't.

Put 30-40 good lbs on this kid though and he could be a good one.

I think this kid has great potential given some added size.

I doubt our coaching staff would offer him a scholarship if they didn't think he were worthy. If that were the case they would just offer some no name from in-state. They obviously think he has potential. I agree.

Just have Irving take smaller steps. His feet will look quicker.
