I'd like to say I wish we could play UNI and WSU but the only way that happens is if they beat some decent teams in the tournament and we all know that isn't likely to happen.

They've lost 4 games.

Some of you are getting way too worked up about rankings. Come tourney time, they mean nothing. If UNI were to get seeded higher than ISU for the tourney, then I would expect and agree with the outcry.

Thats the thing, this thread is talking about rankings, if we wanted to talk about seeding we would be in the bracketology thread.

What I can't believe everyone excepts is Gonzaga....they've only played TWO rated teams, they beat SMU (mid major) and lost to Arizona, yet this is a 1 seed? This program has been a bust for nearly 10 years. They never live up to their NCAA seed and seem to still be living off of the hype of their 90's teams that had deep tourney runs. Easily the most overrated team this year (pry last year too).

BINGO! Whomever lands in their bracket ( where they will be a 1 or 2) is getting the ultimate gift.... I would happily take a 3 seed or even lower ( which won't happen) if in their bracket...

If WSU is #11 then Murray State should absolutely be ranked.

I'm not sure if I have ever seen a team ranked as high as WSU this late in the year with no impressive wins. At least UNI beat them in dominant fashion to prove something...but it works the other way against WSU.

They've had 3 chances against team with a pulse. 0-3 including a beatdown loss. They should be fringe top 25, not fringe top 10.

Just saw a tweet that a couple of voters have us 18th. That is beyond stupid.

Why is that a problem?

Its a problem because it offends me as a basketball fan that I have to be subjected to people that listen to that garbage and treat it as gospel.

Sorry that I like to have basketball conversations with people that don't involve "durrr the Panthers could win in Lawrence."

I just don't think very many people realize how down the MVC is this year. It usually is a league with some respectable basketball, not so much this year.

The only rankings that matter happen at the end of the year.

Honest question...do you believe this SHOULD be the case? That the #1 MVC team should be ranked higher than the #1/2 Big 12 team?

That's a good question. I don't think it would be a reflection of how "good" a team is. ISU is a better team than UNI, but I think UNI would remain above ISU. I guess it would depend on how Kansas finishes. If ISU finishes #1, they'd probably jump UNI...and they should. If Kansas wins out and ISU remains at #2, I think UNI finishes above them (assuming they too win out) and I think they should be ranked ahead of ISU.

Maybe the best analogy I can think of off the top of my head is Marshall football when they were undefeated this year. Did they deserve to be ranked at the time (I'm talking about when they were undefeated)? There were probably 40 teams below them better than Marshall, but because Marshall won their games, they got ranked. Same for UNI right now IMO.

I respect what you're saying here. I'm just saying UNI is built as a Valley program, Iowa State is built as a Big 12 program. There are inherent advantages that come by being a Power 5 school? Would you not agree?

That said, and I'll be done here, I wish we could have played each other. Would have been a great game.

I think we can all agree on this: F Fran.

There are advantages to being a school playing football in Texas, too. That doesn't mean that ISU can just say the Texas teams should give ISU a 4 game lead in the Big 12 football race to even things up a little bit. Either you compete with the hand you have, you draw to try to improve your hand or you fold - you don't just cry to change the rules of the game in the middle of the game.

What you are still missing is that it is irrelevant. UNI has chosen to compete at the Div 1 level. As such the evaluation is based on how they compete against Div 1 competition, not with some golfer's handicap.

If ISU wins out (gigantic if because we play real competition) we'll comfortably have the most quality wins in the nation, we are already at the top. Voters who put a team that as of today has zero quality wins in front of that team would be off the charts idiots.

If WSU and UNI play each other roughly even they should both be 4/5 seed territory. If one dominates the other from here on out one should be 3/4 and the other should be about a 7-8 because they won't have proven anything.

If WSU doesn't beat UNI they should be on the bubble, how do you get an at large without a quality win?

Interesting point because at the moment Wichita's best win is listed on the "First Four OUT" line according to most.

I always like rooting for UNI and I don't care if they are overrated. I hope they have a ton of success and pull some upsets in the tourny.

I think another overrated team is Wisconsin. We will see soon though.

They have yet to play Maryland, Michigan St., or Ohio St.

This is whats really wrong with this, somehow WSU is getting respect from what UNI is doing. I don't agree UNI should be rated as high as they are but I can at least see the point of that argument. I'm not sure I get any reason why WSU is rated as high as they are. Having the teams rated 1 spot from each other almost assumes the teams are looked as equally as good. How can anyone think that, UNI not only handled the Shockers, they have a much better resume. It's disrespectful to UNI.
