Iowa State extends Pollard's contract through 2024

Of course it will be around for a long time. My point has never been that we should drop the program, or that it's going to completely go away. Only that we recognize a diminishing sport for what it is, and stop bringing up the ridiculous notion that we should use the performance of the wrestling program, or its funding, as any kind of measuring stick for the performance of the AD.
I think you are taking wrestling should have some factor and magnifying it to people saying wrestling should be a major factor.

Most people's frustration is that Jamie seems to say who cares about wrestling. Jamie seems to put a significantly higher emphasis on track/cross country which has never had a fan base and never will.

Incorrect. I don't think it should be a major factor or minor factor. Short of a scandal or a Baylor/Penn State situation, I don't think the performance of wrestling or any of the other Olympic sports should be a factor at all when it comes to rating the AD. It would be silly to judge an AD, in any way, based on low profile sports.

I'm sorry but our most history rich sport has to at least have a small factor. I'm not talking about really even whether they are good or not. I'm talking you have to show even a remote interest in supporting it.

Our men's swimming program had rich history of success too. Guess where that got it?

Glad to hear the news. I've been around long enough to remember what we had in the past. Jamie has done a great job ever since he came to Ames identifying problems and coming up with solutions. The improvement in facilities, funding, fan support has been nothing short of amazing since he came to town. Sure he made a few mistakes along the way, but the body of his work is great.

Don't know if national attendance is down or not, just know that tons of fans who used to have season tix no longer even attend one home meet. Because we are not a contending team.
And in those "glory days" - putting up that black curtain would have been unthinkable...
I fail to see how this is pollards fault but go ahead and 95% of fans would probably have the program axed to spend it on fb and bball. JMO

Obviously football and bball are 1st and 2nd in attendance

womens bball draws about 9,800 fans

vb 2600 fans

Wrestling 2300 fans

Gymnastics were 2300 from what I could tell and couldnt find mens (do we have mens?)

Women's basketball doesn't draw 9,800 fans. Women's basketball has announced crowds of 9,800. The other sports don't get to pad their numbers with things like counting any student who buys men's basketball tickets in the attendance for every game like women's basketball does. ISU uses every allowable trick they can to inflate women's basketball attendance numbers.

Everyone does this who sells tickets, not just ISU. Look at what the Hawkeyes and Nebraska have been doing for years to claim "Sell Out Crowd" for their football games. I agree, they are definitely inflating numbers over what is actually in attendance, but this is nothing new at all in any arena that sells tickets and not just sporting events, concerts, plays, anything.

I agree. It just is something that comes up a lot - people pointing to Women's basketball and saying they have way more attendance than Volleyball and Wrestling in order to argue that Women's basketball belongs in a separate tier. When really it isn't all that much higher for actual fan support. They just announce inflated attendance numbers.

Hi salary is public knowledge, as is every employee of all 3 regent universities. It is no secret.

JP is making $6.1 million over the length of the contract. Not bad coin.
Wonder how this ranks for AD salaries in the Big 12?

Leath could have used a $100K or so of this contract for the new wrestling staff.

Cutting baseball and reducing wrestling were adapting to what the future holds, now we just need to add D1 hockey and men's soccer to align with what sports people will care about in the future. I hope Bowlsby gets moving on that getting every Big 12 school a men's soccer team.
