***Iowa Pregame Thread***

I’m excited to see what Heacock has planned for the hawk QB. He looked very unsure of things in his first game. A combination of dropping 8 and well timed blitzes should make him really uncomfortable. He seems to like to run when he is uncomfortable. Need to gets some quality hits on him.

Just have the three LBs spy the QB and RB. Don’t blitz, just have them read the play and free to react. Let the DL create whatever pressure they can. The QB run is more deadly than the pass for Iowa, so take that away first.

Ground breaking analysis here-
Keys for ISU: No turnovers. Clean special teams. Win first downs on both sides of the ball. If we do this in every game, we won't lose to anyone on the schedule.

Keys for Iowa: Dominate LOS on both sides. Win the turnovers and penalties. Get lucky. Sadly, they have won a lot of games following this formula.

Don’t turn the ball over, especially giving them a short field.

No special teams miscues.

Limit the effectiveness of their run game. LBs will be big here filling holes. They are going to run it a lot and they will have some success, but limit big plays.

Get them into passing downs. Make this QB put the ball in the air.

Do these things and we win and win big. Don’t do these things and you’re in for a game.

The good old CR Gazette is back at it again.

Who knew famed German playwright Bertolt Brecht is on the Cyclones roster, even if he did die in 1956?

(Don‘t blame the reporter, even if she is new, headlines are written by copy editors and I have to say the state of media copy editors is really, really poor everywhere right now)

There is a post earlier about how the Iowa game is unimportant in the greater scheme of things. I’m not going to go back to look for it.

Well, beating Iowa this week is important in terms of keeping us undefeated. And on the macro level, that’s not a small thing.

Injuries cost us last year. I want it all this time around.

Deep pass or long run off tackle for like 40 yards to flip the field.
Our safeties have to be really sure tacklers against Iowa. We're usually very aggressive filling gaps with those guys, but if you miss, Iowa usually makes us pay with long runs.

Gronowski is a 2nd RB.. it’s what he did at SDS. He’s 235lbs.

My concern is our 3 man front with DEs who have been honestly poor in run stopping to date. If Willich is out that hurts even more.

My next concern is Zamir Hawk. We will need him and if we don’t have him..well.. I’m concerned.

Nothing about Iowa WRs worries me. Their TEs are solid but not elite like normal.

And like others have mentioned win the TO battle.

You are correct. With the playoffs.....it now has become more important than state bragging rights. Especially with us being in the Big 12.
