***Iowa Pregame Thread***

Iowa State has out gained Iowa by 100+ yards in every game going back to 2018.

Don’t turn the ball over and we win.
That’s it exactly. The hoks seldom turn the ball over. Cyclones remain turnover free, I predict a 27-6 victory. Remember to wear cardinal and show the Hok fans that we have a wave of our own, in the fourth quarter as we wave goodbye to them as they trudge out of the stadium.

Any news on Willich's injury?

Curious on Flora too. When he grabbed his hamstring my gut said cramp, but can't be sure.

We need Buhr back and healthy. He would really help our run game. Hopefully Willich is back too. A bit of a drop off from him to Goodwin. I think Willich was a projected starter last season before his injury.

Special teams as well. I would imagine we are well behind in hidden yardage from turnovers and special teams since 2018.

Ah yes, their FCS champion QB who was sidelined all off season with an injury, took one series of snaps in an open practice and called an audible, and was taken out of the game because he couldn't stop cramping. The next Tom Brady perhaps.

I find it kinda cute that anyone thinks that Gronoski is going to have an easier time against our defense than he did against (checks notes)…Albany?

Are you serious Clark?
Pick 6 their first offensive drive. Seal it done.

I think our defense will dominate on Saturday. I have noticed that our tackling looks a lot better this year (so far) and there hasn't been any drop off replacing Freyler with Neal. Neal already looks like an NFL caliber player. Hopefully our QB pressure can improve.
Luckily we’re playing Iowa and it appears their QB is pressuring himself

I mean, our 3-3-5 defense is setup to defend the passing game. So I guess a qb that prefers to run than throw the ball may feel like this is an easier time than a traditional 4 man front.

In-Game coaching adjustments will be key. I think we have the advantage.

Players obviously matter.

Heacock is solid in this category.

I’ve been impressed with Mouser so far this year. I understand it is a very small sample size, but it seems Mouser has improved over the off season with personnel and play calling.

Against South Dakota, he took what the defense gave him.

It helps to have Rocco’s experience and accuracy with many target routes and options.

Normally they try to force things offensively. This season seems different and very free flowing so far.

I will stress again, players matter, but so far I like what I am seeing from the staff…of course CMC included.

That, and nothing like bringing up history that doesn't mean squat. Eickholt is the typical delusional Hawkeye fan who still thinks Hayden Fry is roaming the sidelines and players like Andre Tippet are still chasing down quarterbacks.

It used to be I could point out one or two things (or more) about an Iowa team that would scare me to death, i.e., a stout defense, a freight train of a running back, a quarterback who could sling it, receivers who were speedy and talented, punt and kick returners who were shifty and could put them in good position to start drives.

Nothing about this Iowa program scares me. It reminds me when the Iowa State and Iowa game was moved to the end of the season due to 9/11. KxNO had both Pete Taylor and Gary Dolphin on. Dolphin said something about Iowa being an intimidating, physical team, the kind Iowa State have never seen before. Pete kind of chuckled and said like, "After playing Nebraska, Colorado and Texas A&M (all of whom finished in the top 25 that year), I doubt Iowa State players are shaking in their boots about playing Iowa."

I will take a one-point win over the Hawks any year. A blow out would be great, but not counting on it.

How are Willich, Buhr, Flora?
Was it just a coincidence that Overby, Hanson and Dom Orange were quiet against SD? Will we see a 4 man front against Iowa?

Hopefully a few friendly blitzes to sooth Gronk’s nervousness. Nothing like going to sleep from a bone crushing tackle to say welcome to Jack Trice.
