***Iowa Pregame Thread***

It’s a rivalry game. They’re a well coached team. So are we. Rivalry games are weird. 9/10 times this game is gonna be decided by one score.

I think we can win. I think we should win. However, we’ve **** the bed for years at home against them so I want to see it to believe it.

But man oh man would an ass kicking feel gooooooood.
Campbell’s first year is the last blowout in the series. Would be nice to send Ferentz. Out like Mac did Hayden

I know this is dangerous to say here, and easy for me as I live out of state where literally nobody cares about Iowa and I won't have to deal with that awful fan base. But this game, as far as what we want to accomplish this year, is probably one of the three least important games. It's not a conf game, and we will have to win the Big 12 title game to get to the playoff most likely.

Now longer term, for recruiting, fan support and those things yes it's important, but for this year, come November, I won't care who won this game.

That said, I really really hope our guys kick their a$$es.
Going undefeated in non con to me is just as, if not more, important as the win being against an instate rival

what if Kirk is playing chess to CMC’s checkers? Like, he’s telling Gronk to play poorly so all we worry about is defending the run game. And then next week he turns him loose and the Gronk for Heisman campaign begins?
Didn't necessarily tell him to suck...but most of his throws were of the 10 yards or less variety. KF played it close to the vest.

I like the fact this team has been tested in the Ireland game. This year's Iowa team has not. If Gronowski was nervous playing at home in front of a Hawkeye crowd against Albany...we'll see how he plays in front of an opponent's FBS crowd. I hope he has jitters.

Year after year I see this comment and I don’t understand it. Is it just a way to belittle Iowa?

It’s their Super Bowl but not ours? We’re above that? They don’t care as much about the rest of their games after week 2?

It’s an intense non-con rivalry- both sides want to win. Both sides really, really want to win, but it’s non-conference and very early season. I guess there are potential playoff implications, but how is it a Super Bowl in week 2?
Are you new to CF?

Honestly the line is insulting to ISU, basically saying we’re a toss up with Iowa on a neutral field. We have shown ourselves to be way better so far. I do think it’ll be a 3-6 pt win just because it’s El Assico, but ISU is quite a bit better than Iowa this year.

That team is a shadow of this one.

As is this year’s Iowa team a shadow of theirs.
This is what makes me nervous, We should win by a couple TD's with the game never really in reach but it will be diareaha time at the end of the game.

Iowa is 100% going to have a few PA deep balls on a 3rd and short. It happens every year and no matter how ****** of a QB they have they will hit on at least one of the four chances.

They are also very likely getting a ridiculously short field or score from their defense or special teams.

If, and its a huge if, we can remove our heads from our asses offensively in the first half and force them to play from behind I could totally see their offense folding.

Points in the first half
2024 0
2023 3
2022 3
2021 10
2019 7
2018 3
2017 10
2016 3

A 10 point lead in 2017 is the only time we've had a double digit lead. Out of 480 minutes of gameplay under Campbell, we have had a double digit lead for all of 5:21.

I have several reasons why we should all feel confident going into this game.
1. Kaleb Johnson WAS their offense in the game last year, and it will be difficult for him to be replaced
2. Rocco Becht is one of the best game managers in the country, and I don't see us falling apart against an offensively incompetent Iowa team
3. Our 2nd and 3rd string linebackers started last year, and we survived. Now we have healthy, not to mention good linebackers, and what looks to be a solid run defense
4. 44 yards? against an FCS team? Their passing attack is virtually HB dump offs that don't even work
5. They have no weapons other than maybe their Quarterback scrambling and their RB. Their leading receiver had ONE reception for 13 yards.

Not to mention we contained Avery Johnson very well a couple of weeks ago
Not sure we contained him well... or they jist didnt call good plays for avery. They had a bad offesnsive coordinator...whereas iowa has... ...

Oh wait. Never mind. Not worried.

I don't see how we lose, given numerous factors, starting with Rocco.
Confessional. I didn't think he would rise to where he has.
Dude epitomizes "Gamer."
