***Iowa postgame thread***

This game reminds me of a couple from last year where the guys were just pretty cocky and thought they had all the answers and Prohm just let them go out and do their thing and get beat. Hopefully this is a hard lesson that will pay off later in the year.

The second half was better but they got so many easy looks in the first half

When? Every look is easy for Peter Jok with a 6'1" Monte on him so that's on Prohm but other than that Bohannon had a couple from 3 feet behind the line wide open and everything else the hoks made good plays on decently defended shots.

From the two games I have watched this season (don't have cable), we lack even an average inside presence. A lot of our shots are from the perimeter and with the lack of an inside presence, defenses know that they can just guard the perimeter with out much risk of us going inside.

Losing the 3 front court players is hurting a lot more than I imagined. Morris can't get to the hoop now because the defense knows he can't throw a lob to McKay or have Niang around the hoop.

I think this team can succeed if Young can grow up fast, he is the only big guy with some skills down low.

Last night was embarrassing. I don't want to go back to the McDoormat days.

THIS TEAM IS PATHETIC and is coached by a pathetic coach. They will never see the NCAA' tournament . there not even fun to watch anymore.

they scored 20 points or so just from pushing the ball and getting easy transition looks In the first half. I don't know what to tell you if you think that was good defense in the first half. 44 points. Iowas scoring average is inflated from playing bad defensive teams. Holding them to 78 points wasn't some great defensive performance

They shot 40% from 3 and 47% overall. Sorry Gunner that wasn't great D.

And Morris and Long aren't great at penetrating the defense and getting looks at the rim

This is the first year that Prohm is running his offense. To credit the team, until this game the defense looked better.

Last night it looked like they came out and did not respect Iowa, and Iowa put it on them. That's on the players.

Monte needs to trust the offense, but it doesn't look like we run it. No penetration, settling for jump shots or being hesitant to shoot. It looks like they just are not sure what they are doing, and then we run predictable sets for Thomas. There is no flow or creativity to it.

Prohm has work to do.

I would start Solomon Young, and Weiler-Babb with Bowie, Holden, Naz off the bench. Nick can drive, and get in the paint more consistently. Solomon has been the best big in his minutes.

I don't k lnow if it is the Morris can't get to the basket or doesn't want to. He seems to be content pulling the ball out and passing around the perimeter. Maybe that's what CSP wants, but from my couch I was questioning whether there's some infighting between Morris and CSP and Morris is trying to make a point. Otherwise, I've never seen him this passive, even when Niang wasn't on the floor.

We have missed a lot of layups too, which is not helping the offense. Essentially, we are a one dimensional team, which is outside shooting. Other than that, we don't have much going for us right now.

You kind of saw this coming once we lost Stinson and Blalock. Let's let Coach Morgan see if he can recruit the next up-and-comers in the Rutgers league and put in his [satellite] system....

Like I said, Morris didn't come back to facilitate and distribute, he's proven he can do that. So now it's all about the 17 foot pull up and the floater over shot blockers because that's what he needs to get drafted.

Prohm has said since the end of last season that Morris creating would be key for this team. If you look at his Murray teams this was a staple of those teams as well. We've watched Monte come through often enough to know he's up to it, but it won't work consistently without everyone else doing their part in keeping defenders honest.

This team is being crippled by its lack of efficiency at the moment. They are stuck with taking long jump shots at the end of the shot clock instead of getting the ball to all parts of the floor. A big part may be that we no longer have an interior passer and decision maker in the post without Niang. This team needs to play differently to be effective.

Or the Morgan era

That's really not in his wheelhouse though. Don't get me wrong. He can do it. It's just not his strength. And certainly not when we gather two defenders up top and have no option to pick and pop with him, and pose no real threat to hit the man when he rolls to the basket (I can't remember a single play where we did that).
