Here is the thing; with very fluid things like coaching searches, you can talk to all of the right sources and have information that is up to date, and be very much on the right track...and an hour later, be totally irrelevant and eventually, not get it right.

These things have so many twists and turns, its one of the hardest things to be 'right' about.

That being said, and as I stated before, I was right next to Marty this AM when he was working the phones, I know who he was speaking to, and they are very solid sources. I also know that Marty went out of his way to seek counsel on what to do with the information, regarding, thinking through the process of how to report it fairly and in a proper context.

Does he fly off the handle sometimes? Yes, he does, and I am not saying anything here that I would not say to his face. But I know that today, he was being very careful to be as professional as possible related to this story.

If a reporter randomly throws out speculation and stuff he's heard from other uninformed people, and one time in fifty his random speculation is right, is that a scoop? I don't think so. It's pretty much impossible to guess wrong 100% of the time.

I think that Marty genuinely wants to break this story. It has become his short term mission and I am OK with that. However, I wonder:
-Is Jamie leaking specific information to specific donors to see who he can trust and who he can't?
-Are Jamie and the core group of insiders "working" the local media? I would personnally enjoy having a little fun with some of the local celebrities.

It seems that Cyclone fans are wound pretty tight right now; looking for some good news to hang our hat on. A buddy of mine at work just about exploded today when Mike Stoop's name came out. If I were Marty or Miller or Miller, I would tread very lightly on message boards right now. I did "appreciate" Marty's comparison to Red Sox fans; complimenting the passion that ISU fans have for thier teams.
