I’m genuinely shocked by the fareway love. Usually I find they are dirty with slim selection and poorly lit. Aldi’s is nicer

Ankeny
Aldi for produce here in Ankeny, (Fareway and HyVee produce is just awful most of the time.)
Fareway for most things that we know that we want that brand.
Hy Vee if the other two can't help me, but even then I don't even want to walk into North Ankeny Hy Vee. The place is always so busy.

Summary, I hope that most of you keep shopping at Hy Vee and leave the other stores more accessible for me and sensible shoppers. ;)

Hy-Vee may have more selection and quantities but lots of times the items they have in stock are already expired, or about to.
Maybe things have changed or maybe you have some special hy-vee but I'm about 99.9% sure that everything you said in this statement is wrong. I worked in 3 different Hy-Vee meat departments and they don't F with dates. Ground beef is fresh that day and if it's not from that day it's bundled in packaging that clearly states that it's a day old and usually sells by 8am since people know they are getting a special deal. I not once saw anyone do anything questionable with dates. Our meat cutters/meat managers knew this type of thing would mean instant termination.

If you're talking outside of the meat department, I also was night stock manager for a year and can tell you that this is also ********. These stores do so much volume that you don't have to even worry about rotation except for very specialized items.

Our Hy-Vee had a yogurt that wasn’t just expired but had been for three months.

They never have the sale stuff adequately stocked.

Maybe I just got lucky in terms of cleanliness, but the one I shopped at in Iowa City was fine. And I take my grilling/barbecue seriously, so the meat counter weighs heavily for me.

90% of my shopping is done at Sam's Club. The other 10% is usually the newer Fareway a couple of blocks from our house. Very convenient to pick up the few items we forgot to get or need smaller quantities of. Occasionally I'll go to the HyVee but the closest one to us has a tiny parking lot and is always very busy.

That's a problem at fareway too and most other stores. You think when you have a sale you order more of that stuff when they probably order it like usual. Usually have to hit the story the first day of the new week if you want the item on sale.

With the new HyVee in Grimes we have our pick of HyVee, Fareway, Aldi or Walmart. I find myself shopping at Fareway the least.

Fareway I shop at rarely runs out and if they do, they have rain checks piled up by cash registers

We grocery shop on Sundays most of the time. So..Hy-Vee. Our Hy-Vee has a freaking Urgent Care clinic in between the pharmacy and Wine/Spirits room. WTF????? The sick people just sit in chairs that are basically in the aisle as you walk by to purchase beer. Gross.

Fareway's layout sucks. I don't like being funneled into the produce section. Then, it's awkward to try to exit Fareway if you decide not to purchase anything.

My son in KC has the urgent care clinic in his store too and you basically have a bunch of sick people sitting there you have to walk by to get to the pharmacy. All coughing. Maybe it is to increase business by getting everyone sick who walks by, so they need more prescriptions.
