Fareway has the best pickup service and it's not close. They're usually standing outside waiting for me at my local store.

Wife usually starts at Sam’s Club then Aldi’s and finishes at Hy-Vee. It’s more of a social outing for her as she tells me who she ran into.

I just get tired of the grannies and their 40 year old kids moving at a snails pace up and down the aisle. I never get a cart and will grab a plastic tote. I know what I want, get it, and get out.

Aldi/Fareway/Target for most everything. Depending on the items. Used to be almost Target for everything but they keep changing products and have limited options.
Won't step foot into Walmart anymore.
HyVee is a joke. Gotta wonder how they get all that $ to pay endorsement deals to celebrities... oh yeah the prices are super high and over charge. The newer hyvee in ankeny has a great beer selection, the old one is wasted space and filled with too much wine imo.

Closest to where we live is a Walmart. It’s so much cheaper but you have to endure the people of Walmart. Sometimes it’s almost not worth the savings. We only go to HyVee or Fareway in a pinch.

I’ll add Kwik Star for milk, bread, eggs, butter. Cheap prices on this stuff and the quality is good.

I prefer Fareway for most of my groceries. I usually save around $20-$30 per week on my grocery bill compared to Hy-Vee. I also prefer Fareway because I can get my shopping done faster. It takes me almost twice as long to shop at Hy-Vee for the same groceries as Fareway.

In the Hy-Vee vs. Fareway debate, for me, it's Hy-Vee ... but not because of groceries, it's because of their services:
  • Fuel saver can be strategically used (almost abused)
  • They sell a lot of gift cards which have decent deals at times and occasionally awesome deals (see #1)
  • Their customer service counter for money orders, mailing things, etc
But we still buy the majority of our groceries via Walmart online pickup b/c Hy-Vee is badly overpriced.

Wish I was closer to a Target. Have a relative on low sodium diet so when he comes to visit, they have useful products

as mentioned selection is another big reason. I needed pancetta last week for a stuffed pork chop I was concocting. I asked 2 employees and they didn’t have it. I know this isn’t like an everyday ingredient but it’s not that uncommon either. Not like I was asking for mortadella.
I don't know what either of those things are

I prefer Fareway for better prices and meat counter. They also price match HV ads, though covid has caused them to match less items now, especially meat. They price matched everything pre-covid.

I go to both but only buy the ads and a couple things the wife needs.

Problem with Hy Vee meat is that a few years ago, they did a slight of hand and changed Usda "choice" to something like "State fair". You thought you were getting USDA choice, but really weren't.
