My wife says crick instead of creek. I think it's just to annoy me since she doesn't do it for any other word.

Merriam Webster allows for both pronunciations, but it still makes no sense to me why anyone would insert an "sh" sound in there. I mean, you say "grocer" and not "grosher", so why change it for groceries?

As a "sh" person, my argument would be that nothing in the English language makes sense

Well, I think the sh sound in grocery is similar to how the word “sure” is pronounced. Even though it is a “c” in grocery it has an “s” sound. I don’t think I’ve ever heard someone with strong Iowan roots pronounce it without the sh sound. My family also has rural roots, so it could either be a city vs. rural thing or different classes pronounce it differently. My older family members also say warsh, I am catching myself saying it like that more the older I get.

Gross-er sounds like something a teen would say about something moist in comparison to something damp. I don't want that kind of person being associated with me food.

It's pretty simple. If you pronounce it with an "shh" sound, you're the dumbest human on the face of the planet, and you should be immediately sterilized to prevent your DNA from being passed along and further clouding the gene pool. If there's a ball peen hammer anywhere in your proximity, please do us all a favor, and hit yourself in the head with it.

Tell how you truly feel, Janny. Don't hold back! :)

(Also: Hyphen in "ball-peen." :))

I've been going to the Gross-ery store for soda forever.

Side note: eck-specially makes my blood boil.
