Hoiberg to Huskers

And right now, there is zero evidence they are going to get any kids that we want out of Iowa with or without Fred. Historically, it's MUCH more likely Foster and Lipsay go to somewhere other than ISU and Nebraska.
So you’re not objecting that we’ll compete with him, but that based on history he’s going to fail. I hope you’re correct.

Same with Iowa, they generally haven’t gotten the Foster or Lipsey types. That doesn’t mean we’re not competing against Iowa or that any Cyclone that becomes a Hawk is held in the same regard as before.

Self also has not historically beaten Iowa State for an Iowa recruit btw.

It’s hilarious that people that are aggro pissed about this think that others that don’t feel the same way must just be Hoiberg lovers and kiss asses. Like it’s impossible to not like how Hoiberg left us, but still appreciate what he did for us and not give a **** about where else he decides to coach again.

Of course. My contention is not that we won't compete against him, my contention is that with a 4 million dollar coach budget apparently, they were going to get somebody we'd compete with regardless.

Right now there is zero evidence Foster or anybody else good will be going to Nebraska and I'd be shocked if they did.
Right, but you’re kidding yourself if you think NU would get someone that would compete more with ISU than Hoiberg. It’s hard to follow a legend, even harder when that legend is coaching next door. If Fred turns around the Nebraska program, it has more risk of being impactful to ISU than if a guy like Lue did it.

I wouldn’t so easily dismiss Fred having success there, with or without guys we wanted. https://www.amestrib.com/sports/20181127/boys-basketball-chasing-fred---tamin-lipsey-begins-his-hyped-prep-basketball-career%3ftemplate=ampart

What is the worst case scenario here? That's what I don't understand. He maybe gets one guy (Lipsey) who might have gone to ISU, but is not guaranteed to by any means? And this is what people are pissed about? I bet 90% of Cyclone fans have no idea who Lipsey is.

He’s a freshman in HS. A lot of **** changes in 3 years. If he falls down to the point that it’s a battle between us and Nebby then it’s probably not that big of a deal anyway.

You seem to think there needs to be a significant impact. There doesn’t. Iowa State can have success when other local programs do, but that doesn’t mean we’re not competing with them. But you’re also of the sick ilk that cheer for both Iowa and ISU.
The pressure from the outside got to the program this year. It’ll be worse if Fred has success and Prohm a down year, as the local media will be stroking all the Hoiberg hardons.

Completely agree. I'm grateful for Hoiberg's time here, he'll always be a legend in this community. But he's gone, he ain't coming back, I see no evidence right now we'd want him back, and it's his own dang business where he goes from here.

It’s this kind of comment that makes me sick. We owe Fred nothing, not even gratitude. He was well paid and used ISU to get his shot at the NBA (twice).

He‘s not a legend. He’s a guy that is loyal only to himself. He doesn’t bleed cardinal and gold, and probably thinks those that do are a little stupid.

I really don’t care where he goes or what he does. I don’t follow Wayne Morgan, Greg McDermott, Tim Floyd, or Larry Eustachy. Fred means no more to me than they do. Just as Cyclone Nation means very little to Fred. He’s just a former coach and certainly NOT the Mayor. That’s his choice, by the way. And he probably could care less if Chris Williams or any of us make excuses for him.

Has nothing to do with Fred, but I want all other programs in the Upper Midwest (Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Kansas, even Nebraska) to suck donkeyballs cause I figure that'll help us recruit the region better. And that's not going to change. Unfortunately if he's coaching in this area you better believe he'll be recruiting Minnesota and Wisconsin; never felt like we were recruiting against Miles.

Agreed. Like it or not this will absolutely have an impact on ISU basketball. I have only one concern, ISU.
