Re: ***Offensive Coordinator Search Thread***

Last time I will say this, but it has to be a spread offense OC. I don't think Rhoads is dumb enough to go get anything other than a spread offense OC.

There are only a handful of coaches in the country who aren't going to run some type of zone read offense, especially if they come from a non bcs school. All of those school seem to run the spread.

Look at you with your one point you're going to hammer on every 2 minutes!

We probably should stick with the spread, although there's a small part of me that thinks it would be fun to go all Georgia Tech and implement some sort of left-field offense that the whole conference would only see once a year.
I'm going to hammer on it every time I get the chance. If we switch to a Pro I, that means we have to go out and recruit WHOLE different players and talent. That will take another 4 years to work in. Stay in the spread or be screwed.

One thing for people to keep in mind, replacing an OC is a lot different than replacing a whole staff in terms putting in a system. My main concern would be for the young QBs and making sure they continue to develop.

Also, PR should not be worrying about finding an OC that fits our current talent. He should be thinking solely about who is the most talented and fits in best with the direction he wants for the program. No way in hell an OC that doesn't run the spread would set the program back 4 years.

Without a spread offense, players like Jarvis West and Teddy Lampkin are screwed.

You clearly don't understand recruiting then. If we went Pro I, we would have to recruit all new talent. That would take 3 to 4 years to get going. I'm not ready for four straight 3 win seasons.. We have players now that have the skill sit for the spread offense. Not Pro I. Rhoads has got to get someone that runs a spread.

Yea except we changed offenses when Rhoads and Herman got here and went to a bowl game right away, after going nowhere for 3 years.

Because spread offenses can put up points and it didn't hurt to have a solid defense. We really just have to stay in a spread and I think we will. Because I don't think Rhoads is that dumb.

We can't afford to get out of the spread at this point. It'd sit back this team 3 or 4 years.

Scott Frost is Oregon's WR coach. Unless you are really dumb, you know Oregon runs the spread.

There a lot of football offenses on the spectrum between a spread and a Pro I. Also, I didn't realize that every player on the field is a fourth year senior, thanks for the lesson. Plus there are plenty of players in our system that could play in multiple systems effectively.

What it comes down to is that Rhoads wanted a spread when he got hired here and I don't think he will change that.

Though I'm hesitant to keep this going...

1)Our defense is MORE solid now than it was 3 years ago, and you know it.
2)This spread offense has never really put up big points here, much less in 2009.

No one has thrown out the possibility of going away from the spread. I am fairly confident that our next OC will be a spread OC.

You need one of these

And he may or may not feel the same way now. We will have a pretty good idea after the hire. With so many defenses going 'small' to stop the spread there are opportunities to be ahead of the curve with a different offense. And if he hires a guy that runs a very similar offense to what we have seen the last three years I am just fine with that too.

What it comes down to is that Rhoads wants a spread offense and if it's not a spread OC we will be set back for 3-4 years.

Haven't seen anyone with this viewpoint yet so I thought it should be considered heavily..

My guess is someone gets promoted from within. No inside info, just a hunch.
