Hello ISU from an RU fan

Do you know anything about the area of Yonkers? We just booked a room at the Hampton Inn & Suites in Yonkers. Sounds like they have a complimentary shuttle to the train station which would intersect with the 4 subway line, so reasonable transportation. The hotel got good user reviews on hotels.com.

We have a group of 7 staying here also.

wonder what the crowd will be like............many fans from ISU?
We should have 20,000+, maybe more, and another 10,000 football fans ..........I hope

If it wasn't New York, I would say this would likely have been our best bowl crowd yet. Somewhere around 30K+, But can't fathom more than too much more than 6-8K for New York to essentially play the home team. We've been screwed like this more often than not. Playing the home team has not gone well for us in past bowl game. Between the cold, late hotel reservation difficulties and some thinking next yr will be better, I just think its a hard sell.

That being said. CPR has proven to be a road warrior, so fans might be a little more encouraged. Really, most of us have no Idea. I'm having a hard time finding many people to go with from over here. Haven't decided if I'm going to try and meet up with the crew back home from college days.

What late hotel difficulties? There are a ton of nice hotels available for less than $200 a night, some less than $150.

I would guess that most Cyclone fans you run into will be down with this.

You might say our fans like to party.

The owners of the Leinenkugel's Ballyard Brewery next to Chase Field (f/k/a Bank One Ballpark) would agree, considering ISU fans drank the place dry before the 2000 Insight.com Bowl.

He is making his way. We still bELieve that EL will walk again.

The most recent article on him was on SI.com making the case for him as Sportsman of the Year.

Thanks, great photo of him smiling up at Brown. What he writes on his twitter is pretty impressive..its probably all that heart and determination that made him an elite athlete in the first place. No way I could handle that with the kind of strength hes shown.

ISU's season starting RB Shontrelle Johnson is out for the season with a neck injury - bulging disk that was causing numbness and tingling down arms etc. Had surgery for it about a week ago.

4 of 5 starting OL have had injuries ranging from broken legs to the always too common knee injuries. The 5th of those five, Keleche Osemele played all season long with a nagging high angle sprain.

Jake Knott, starting LB broke his arm pre-season and played first half of season in a cast, dislocated his shoulder twice during Baylor game, popped it in himself and kept playing.

Two top WR's: Darius "Money" Reynolds broke a toe right before season started, played through it. Josh Lenz was out OU game for a knee and ankle strain.

Second string (after Shontrelle Johnson) RB James White has been injured, fourth string RB got hip pointer on first big run this season.

Season starting QB Steele Janz was benched in large part according to Coach Rhoads due to how severely an ankle sprain suffered against Connecticut (3rd game of season) affected his ability to run and pass as was his plant foot.

A DB Connecticut fan pushed CY the ISU Mascot down/out of the stadium for a 8 - 12 foot fall resulting in a compound fracture of both arm bones. The friggin Mascot!

So ISU fans know about injuries also.

These are just a few of the publicly known injuries from this season.

So ISU team knows about that too and I'm with you. Injury free game would be great.

I'm assuming you guys do know about Eric LeGrand, right?

I think we all want an injury free game, mis-use of the Lattimer scale there that people are keen on posting. The worst things in college football are seeing things happen like what happened to Eric, for me anyways and for most I'd say. Wish him continued improvement and hope to God we don't see anything happen to anyone from either team even remotely close to that.

What are some good resturants that we should make it to (the real good ones that the locals know about not the tourist traps)? What are some good bars to hit up the night before the game, cheap beers well cheap for NYC? What else would you guys suggest to go see while we are there?

And he means this literally. Every time we went back for another round they told us they were out of another variety of Leinie's.

Awesome time - what I can remember of it...

Hearty hello to all RU fans,

Looking forward to a great game. All I know is that Schiano is a pretty darn good coach, but I don't know anything about your team this year.

Looking forward to an injury-free, fun and competitive game. We're no strangers to the bad weather but I hope it isn't too cold. Wouldn't want a sub-zero game in six inches of snow.

Cheers

If you have a big group, I recommend the restaurant SPQR in Little Italy. It's family style & you can fill 5 people on 2 meals & an app.

If anyone in your group works for a large company, check to see if they have "cultural discounts" or something like that. Both my wife & I get free admission to the Nat History Museum (highly recommend) & a bunch of other museums around the city.

You can buy "I Love NY" souvenirs, but don't wear them until you get home. They make you stick out as a target for pickpockets. Oh yeah, put your wallet in the front pocket of your pants or else it will mysteriously drop out somewhere during the day.
