And regarding the states you have been in, do fly over or drive throughs (only stopping at Rest Stops) count? What about landing in an airport?

Don't know about the others, but we count it as on the ground...literally. Flying over doesn't count. Landing in an airport doesn't count unless you leave the airport. Basically, minimum of one hour not in a vehicle, not in an airport. That's just the "been in". "Know well" involves multiple visits and/or multiple overnights. "Lived in" involves 3+ consecutive months as a primary residence. Our family travels a lot, and we have personal maps of where we've traveled, lived, etc. There was a lot of argument about definitions (particularly due to two military types with TDY's), so we set up definitions.
