Friday OT - It's Breakfast Time!

Brunch at Screen Door in Portland, OR

I almost wrote down Tasty & Alder in Portland - I had some great fig french toast (and I don't love figs) and some duck frites. We wanted to get to Screen Door but timing didn't work out this last trip!

Soft, warm cinnamon rolls are hard to beat, but I wouldn't want to eat them every morning. An omelet with meat & veggies would be my pick for the "must pick one dish to eat for every breakfast until the end of time" angle.

About 18 years ago, friends of ours got married in Monterey, CA. We went out for breakfast the morning of the wedding and I had seafood benedict. It was amazing. I've come close to re-creating it, but the fresh seafood is a little tough to come by in Kansas City.

Otherwise, I love about everything associated with breakfast foods. Bacon, cinnamon rolls, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, sausage, bloody marys, crepes, grits (done correctly). I'm convinced I'll meet my end at the hands of really well done breakfast buffet.
The grits at Nichols were heavenly after closing down the Westport bars at the Big 12 Tournament.

Fast Food: Hardee’s sausage and egg biscuit just does it for me.

Otherwise, I’m pretty simple and I haven’t had anything that I like better than home-cooked bacon (laid out on parchment paper, baked 20 minutes at 350 degrees), eggs scrambled in the resulting bacon grease (cast iron skillet is the best). Buttered toast or buttered grits on the side.

Didn't go to Tasty & Alder but that sounds good! Definitely have Screen Door on your list for next time.

Banana and macadamia nut pancakes with coconut syrup at Kihei Caffe in Kihei, Maui!
Last time we were in Kihei our best breakfast was from the little farmer's market we walked to just after sunup. We got homemade chips and homemade salsa and ate them on the beach. The salsa was an awesome juxtaposition of sweet fruit and hot spices.

It's pretty tough to beat a good plat of B's and G's or some chicken fried steak done right.

The best breakfast sandwich I've ever had was in Ida Grove at a place that's no longer open. It had a two eggs, a sausage patty, two strips of bacon, onion, lettuce, tomato, and mayo on toasted sour dough. This thing was absolutely massive and amazing.

Probably my own cured and smoked pork loin (Canadian Bacon) along with my maple brown sugar cured bacon and jalapeno cured bacon. You can never have enough bacon.

Add the Monte Cristo drizzled with raspberry sauce along with a glass of fresh orange/guava juice.

There are 3 that come to mind. The first two are in Minnesota
- The Cajun (with the Andouiille Sausage) at Dehn's Manor
- The stuffed French Toast at Mavericks (sour dough French Bread)

The other was The Migas at the Ruby Slipper Cafe in New Orleans.

However, I'm not sure anything hit the spot better than Doritos and Mountain Dew on hangover Saturday mornings (OK, it was probably more like lunch time at the earliest) during college.

Years ago when I worked 3rd shift...I would stop by McDonald's and get a McGriddle on the way home, sometimes two (this is when they first came out). They were delicious, and then I'd go to bed. Incidentally, I gained a lot of weight that year...
