Friday Off Topic Celeb Passing

Jerry garcia is one that will will always stick with me. As mentioned above, the Challenger explosion was memorable as I remember sitting in my 1st grade class watching and then visited Florida for the first time a week after it happened and have some photos of pieces of it being brought in on ships. Recently Yogi Berra's passing hit me in the feels. Of course coach Orr and J-Walt will always have a special place in my heart as they pretty much introduced me to ISU basketball.

Also Han Solo, never thought the man would go.

Dammit...I haven't seen it yet!

I didn't think of Challenger when OP talked about celebrities dying. My father was heavily involved in the Apollo missions and we lived down there for a couple of years in the sixties. I've never lost my fascination with the flights...

I was driving home when the news about Challenger came on the radio. I had to pull over because I couldn't see through the tears to drive.

Sorry but 9/11 will always be the biggest shocker i have ever seen!! Celebs or not this is tops for me.

Pete Taylor, only famous person that really shocked me when he died. Grew up listening to Pete and still miss him. JW does a great job but Pete will always be my favorite. I guess he wasn't a celebrity as in super famous but his passing is the only one of a person that I didn't know that I was really depressed about.

Yeah, this one was a huge gut punch. His personality and likability came through in his broadcasts such that even though most of us didn't know him - he was "one of us". Together we felt the highs and the all-too-frequent lows for a whole lot of years. And it just came so unexpectedly out of the blue.

Agree with this. My wife had a cousin that died that day at the WTC. Watching that on TV was heart-wrenching and sickening. Celebs I don't care as much about other than thinking "That sucks."
