Fran McCafferey

Iowa fans are just upset that Fran was outcoached by Fred. That was supposed to be Fred's weakness.... lack of coaching experience.

Well... which coach looked like the more classy well respected experienced head coach tonight? The whiny baby Fran... or the classy Fred?

I wouldn't say he got out coached by Fred. Iowa missed how many layups and clean looks in the second half. They got better shots than we did, we just had Scotty knocking them down while Iowa missed their looks.

I like Fran, I think it's going to be really nice to get back to having Iowa-ISU being a nationally relevant game again. And it's funny to me that in football we love how emotional CPR is, and Iowa fans wish Ferentz was more emotional, yet in basketball we're talking about how much better it is to have a calm coach.

I'm not so sure having a player go off for a career high points constitutes as Fred somehow outcoaching Fran, but to each his own I suppose.

So do you think Fran won the coaching battle? I'm interested to hear the explanation of that. Where were his superior X's and O's? What was he doing to get ISU off their game? Because it looked to me, like ISU was playing exactly the game they wanted to in the second half.

As far as having one player going off, the same can be said for both McCabe and Brommer. Both played considerably above their season averages coming into the game. And regardless, having players score a lot is kind of the point, isn't it?

I think last night just proved that both programs are on the upswing. I mean, look at the young talent Iowa had playing last night. Look at ISU's scout team next year. While ISU will undoubtedly be better the next year or so, I fully expect Fran to catch the program up.

If football isn't going to see annual top 25 match-ups, why not bball?

Both programs made GREAT hires. Iowa is 5-5 after being 3-8 or something at this time last year. Iowa is also a younger team than they were last year, and have played a similar SOS.

ISU is out-performing expectations thus far. See ya UNI and Drake, it was fun.

I think Fran is a solid coach, and was the right hire for Iowa. I think his passion will bring some energy back to Carver, and if last night was any indicator, this rivalry will become relevant again. Wish Paul would do the same in football.

McCabe scored 4 points above his season average. That is not a considerable amount. Brommer, I will give you. But I am sure a lot of post players will score considerably above their season average against Iowa State this season.

As far as X's and O's go, Iowa had Iowa State completely out of their game in the first half. He was switching defenses and slowing down ISU's fast break game very well. Iowa just does not have the depth to keep up with that kind of pace for 40 minutes right now, and it showed. The players had no legs at the end of the game, and there is not a whole lot Fran can do about that.

And last year's 3-8 was a pathetic 3-8. Fran's going to do wonders over there.

Awe, too bad Fran. The better team won last night.

He looked like such a ***** last night. I personally look forward to Fred dominating him for years in games and the recruiting trail.

Eat it Sqawks! We're better than you and we will be for many years to come.

Go Cyclones!

If you wanna talk the depth each coach is working with, we went 3 deep on the bench with 2 of those bench players playing under 5 minutes.

Fran's style and personality will bring back a lot of fans.

They had an announced attendance of 13k last night, and I think that actual was pretty close to that. Fans were into it, but in that way that says they're used to being beaten down by the last few years. Kind of familiar that way.

How many of those were ISU fans.

I kinda like McCaffrey. He's would pretty tight, but was gracious in his post-game remarks, said a few nice things about our team. He sticks up for his guys. And he seems to be getting the most out very, very limited talent.

I agree with this. I remember what a db he was last year when UNI thumped him in the McLeoud Center. In fairness, he was trying to get kicked out but the refs wouldn't give him the satisfaction.

I am waiting for the melt down, and big blow up from his wife. That will be epic.

OR maybe it was the fact that they designed a defensive game plan, executed by Anderson, that completely rendered May ineffective.

AND maybe it was the fact that he completely forced the tempo in the second half after watching the hawks slow them down (those are called adjustments, I am sure that you knew that though).

And cry some more about the officiating, but Iowa was allowed to play d with their hands in the first half. PLUS did any of their bigs make a move with the ball without travelling. Iowa fans are so funny....

ISU probably has less depth than Iowa.

Lutz>Franny

For those keeping score, Lutz isn't the head coach.

You guys are being way too nice, Franny's going to be a huge fail.

I don't think that he will be a huge fail. But the fact remains that they are in a deep hole. And they don't get their facility, and long overdue renovations for CHA, for another year.

The Big 10 is very good this year, and Iowa has no guard play (even with Payne). It is going to be a very tough year. I don't know that it gets better for 3 + years (they are in a deep hole), will their fans who are singing his praises now be as excited when he loses one that truly is a clunker. It didn't take them long to turn on Lick.

Fred's best thing is that he knows that he has to win soon. If this group next year, and the year after, can have some real success, the gamble was successful.

And ISU has the depth? You are aware our backcourt played 38, 38, and 40 minutes right?

Also, I really don't know about Iowa's young talent. I don't know how talented it really is.

I don't want to see Franny fail. I just want him to have about 10 mediocre years before the next AD has to fire him. It's real fun watching the faces he makes.

My wife called it when she said he looks just like the head vampire from "Lost Boys." Yup. Pretty much.

He's got fire. Getting t'd up when he did was interesting. They were getting all the calls at that point. He can't blame the refs for the loss, that's for sure.

Your wife is right. I referred to him as Edward Herman also last night.
