Fixing NFL OT

My immediate reaction is who gives a ****? Do people actually get worked up because the game ended in a tie? Do you have to be unemployed to care about stuff like that?
Yes. Anyone who wants to win instead of tie is unemployed. In fact, it's on the application for jobless benefits if you prefer ties or wins.

How so?

If one team is a massive favorite, and the underdog ties, it will feel like a win/loss depending on which team you cheer for.

And as for the “win that feels like a loss,” see Iowa State - Drake from 2018

You're a fan of moral victories and that's ok. This is professional sports and it shouldn't end in a tie.

It happens where? The NFL is the only major sport in the US that ends in a tie. For God's sake we play until we have a winner for 3rd and 4th grade basketball fun days.

My sons play competitive baseball and basketball and I’ve seen several ties.

Hockey also has ties.

What's wrong with a tie?
Every other sport has eliminated a tie (well, maybe not soccer). Baseball and hockey have even modified the rules of OT to 1) lower the risk of injury and 2) make the OT more exciting for fans and 3) find a winner to the game sooner than later. I think the NHL did a great job of this with a five minute 3 on 3.

The NFL can adopt similar changes from college

I've been coaching youth sports for 15+ years and have never experienced a tie.

Sure seems that way.
Why? Being ok with or a fan of ties just means being ok with the idea that sometimes a game won’t have a winner or a loser.

It’s weirder to change the rules of a game (including just basically making it a mini-game) during the regular season because you can’t bear the concept of a tie.

If you pay the cost for an NFL game and watch for 3+ hours with no resolution thats a problem.

There is a reason soccer is way down the list of sports here in the states. College and even hockey changed rules to take away the tie. NFL should do the same.

Just bring back sudden death. Be more aggressive in regulation if you don't like the coin toss.
