Really, the only thing "toolish" that's occurred thus far was your comment towards me. I simply passed along what was being reported on Fox and other outlets. I claim no expertise in bomb making business but I do have access to regular security briefings at certain levels and, far more importantly, I regularly work with and have friendships with a number of TSSE's at the airport who've previously encountered similar devices in Afghanistan. I was quite clear in pointing out that none of this is anything close to conclusive...and yet somehow you saw this is "over the top" and somehow political. On the contrary, I shared what little information I knew to be true and gave an opinion. Perhaps the only real problem here is your own assumptions.
For the record I've made nothing like a claim of knowing who is behind this attack, simply pointing out that SOME of its aspects reflect commonalities with AQ methods and equpment...I even gave my own "guess" as to who I think may be behind the attack. But I'm completely open to a thousand possibilities as we all should be, and the evidence will lead where it will, and we may yet end up at a singular nutjob. Almost literally, anything is possible at this point. Again, I think the most likely explanation is someone "inspired" by Al Qaeda but with minimal direct connection to the organization...a very disconnected cell. But given the current dearth of facts, that's little more than a guess and I admit it as such.
So, cdnlgld, instead of sowing animosity amongst those of us discussing this issue, try some amity and consideration instead. If others want to speculate based on their own past experience and background, and the bit of evidence that's come to light, than that's their business and you should feel free to ignore it...or partake if it interests you.
