Emmanuel Malou

He is either going to be on schlolarship or he isn't. I don't see how grayshirting would even work with basketball.

Well, I'm just spitballing because I don't know how it works but I would think it would be legal to have him enroll part time his first semester as a greyshirt, redshirt second semester and then be essentially a RS freshman the next year. I don't see how that helps anything, however as he would still have to be in the same class.

My point being, I know the academic issues could be a problem but do you think we're blowing them out of proportion? I don't think any of us really know the situation and if Freddy has offered/going to watch Malou play and has had Malou check out a lot of home games this season, it seems like there is definitely strong interest from both parties. And I'm not sure that would be the case if there were academic problems as severe as some people have been talking about. Anyways, I think Malou ends up being a cyclone and eligible to play immediately just based on reading between the lines.
Why? Much of recruiting at this point is on the Class of 2015. He is 30 miles from campus so there is essentially no cost to recruiting him- thus even if we thought he was not going to make it for 2014, we are not going to stop recruiting him, just to have to start up again in a few months. The best way to get him locked up for 2015 (if he is forced to reclassify) or 2016 (if he is forced to go juco) is to recruit and sign him now.

I think we discussed earlier that greyshirting in basketball doesn't work because it is a two semester sport.

Jake and Jess talked a lot about foreign players on the Monday Rebound show. Sounds like it's harder to get foreign guys now than it was 20 years ago. Just because of NCAA clearing.
D$%^ the NCAA. They are screwing things up. That is how we had so much trouble recruiting the German bomber.

Odds of Hawkeye fan Sears throwing out this idea to the newsroom?

How many mentions of Malou is an ISU recruit you think there will be? Got to get that guilt by association angle in there.

Talking about ABCD now on kxno...doesn't seem to be an ISU smear story, but Sears is not involved. Seems like some legitimate questions...but I'm sure it is true of most of these, just this one happens to be local.

Anybody listening to Murph and Andy? It sounds like this Alexander guy is AWOL and Malou has no shot of being eligible next year. Its like the kids have been living in a third world country.

Sounding pretty bad. Glendon sounds like a real piece of crap.

Since WHO has a full time Hawkeye fan troll on staff I figured it was just a way to cause trouble for Malou's recruitment that looked like a possible steal for ISU hoops, but this seems like a pretty well researched story and Sonya Heitshusen seems very professional compared to Clown John Sears.

Feel sorry for anybody who may have been wronged.

Yeah, if all this is true, I'd say chances of Malou playing Division 1 anywhere are next to zero.

zero because they are not going to have the academic profile, or zero because something else like professional status?

Academic. He came here to get grades in order to play college ball. From what they are saying, Sonya and the guy who owns the practice facility, there isn't any academic progress happening for anyone.

This guy can't pay rent or even provide 1st world housing. I think its safe to say no money is going to the players.

1. This in no way affects Malou or taints his name, other than potential eligibility issues (which I assume Fred is checking on). More of a victim if anything.

2. The story sounds pretty bad for this prep school and the guy running it, but the media has a way of assigning nefarious intent to money trouble automatically. That isn't always the case.

Anyway, didn't listen to it all, but thought I would weigh in on what I heard.
