Lard and Long will be forgotten because they're totally unknown at this point.
Incoming recruits always garner more excitement than second year guys that didn't get to play much even if it's for s valid reason like tons of guard depth (Long) or not being here first semester (Lard).
They'll get their shot regardless of how much disrespect the boards give them.
I guess, but almost everyone has him as the first big off the bench. And almost everyone is also in agreement we'll only add one forward and go with a three man rotation of Young, Juiston, and Lard. For someone that's not played a minute of college ball that's hardly forgotten/under the radar/disrespect imo.
I'll start by saying I think LW will start next year but....everyone is very sure of themselves right after a season where CSP didn't start the best big man until the last part of the season because he was a freshman. I think he will start but wouldnt be surprised if he comes off the bench for the first half of the season depending on who else signs
There's a difference between not starting a player because he's not ready, and not starting a player because he's a freshman. if you're going off talent alone, Lard could have easily played right when when he got here, but he wasn't ready.
He didn't start because he wasn't ready at the beginning of the season.
People forget that Naz Long was a little used backup point guard his freshman year. Just 6.9 MPG and 1.4 PPG. In hindsight Jakolby should have redshirted this season with as much guard depth we have but he has a chance to carve out a role on this team with all the graduation losses we have but he is going to have competition with this talented freshman class coming in.
He was clearly the best option at the beginning of the season...Holden never looked good. Say all you want about "not being ready" but he was our best option the whole season. Prohm has said numerous times that he should have played him more sooner
I remember Niang as a freshman started the season coming off the bench and before long it was apparent that he was going to be a special player and eventually Fred had no choice but to start him. I trust that coach Prohm will make his rotation based on who is ready to play and as we saw with Young this year coach Prohm didn't just throw him to the wolves from the get go and waited for the right time to start him. If LW looks the part of a starting Big 12 guard in fall practice then he probably will get the nod but it's not a knock on him if coach Prohm uses him off the bench to start the season and eventually put him in the starting lineup once he gets his feet wet.
I'm always skeptical of recruiting rankings, remember Ricky Morgan? He was supposed to be the next Mateen Cleaves as we essentially beat out MSU to sign him and he turned out to be a huge bust. Let the kids play and earn their spots in the rotation and not just focus on their rankings. Matt Thomas is another top 50 recruit that some here were really hard on his first 2 season but once he settled in was a huge part of our success the past 2 seasons.

Sooner, yes. At the beginning of the season, no. Solomon was completely lost on D to start the year, as you would expect a freshman to be.

Umm. Yes he should have played more sooner, but that doesn't change the fact he wasn't ready to start the season. He's still got a bit to learn.
In terms of a real big man I totally agree. There were certain teams where we were fine or even had an edge playing mostly Bowie as our tallest player, other times we went with that lineup when playing Solomon heavy minutes would clearly have been better. By end of the year CSP knew exactly which lineup to play in which situation, but it took a bit.

I'll chime in by saying I don't think anyone is "forgetting" Lard, but at this point I don't think an of us know what we will get out of him.
Your definition of teams contending for a NC every year is likely another one of your moving bars.
