Next year would be a blast if Montgomery and Butler came back to compliment Purdy, our top two TE's, and another year of seasoning for our o-line, but I don't see it happening either. Those guys are looking at some nice paychecks and they need to go before putting anymore more miles on themselves than absolutely necessary. Same with Lima on the defensive side of the ball.
Montgomery is the best back I've seen in Ames since the Davis brothers, so while I'm excited about Hall, Brock, and the guys we'll have returning, it's not going to be a deal where we just move on, business as usual. I'm even more concerned about replacing the big, physical receivers we have in Butler and Eaton. Between them and Lazard we've been really spoiled the last couple years.
Enjoy 'em while we have 'em. Hopefully Campbell's recruiting efforts will bring these types of players around more often but compared to our history, a lot of these guys are once every 10-20 year type of talents.
