DB Nigel Tribune commits

I don't think Rhoads would get 4 or 5 years of sub-500 ball even if he is a hometown hero.

By your logic, Texas should never lose.

And about the OSU game, yeah, winning that game and finally forcing a change in BCS rules absolutely should consider it one of the great upsets regardless of what the rest of the country thinks of Iowa State.

I give your posting skills no stars.

Your first line wreaks of logical fallacy. And your last line...well, ad hominem. Insufferable homerism at its finest. We know you're an Iowa State fan, but take a step back and realize that you aren't quite thinking outside your Cyclone-colored box.

Just because people pose realistic points of view that counter yours doesn't give you the right to flame away.

Nigel Tribune: Hello?
CPR: Hi Nigel, this is Paul Rhoads from Iowa State University. Was wondering if you would like to play defensive back for us this year
NT: Goddamit Tolburg, I'm hungover, my knees hurt and if you are going to pull this **** at least you could say you were from Oklahoma

NT: Let me get back to you, will ya, Paul? I got a guy on the other line asking about some white walls.

Raines is a heckuva football school down here. I look forward to watching Nigel play in person this Fall.

I would probably take .500 over the next 4 years right now if given the opportunity.

We've recruited plenty of 2 star players, but not this many zero star guys that don't even have a Rivals page until they have committed to ISU.

We all just HAVE to trust Rhoads' judgment on these kids... that's all you can do.

But if Iowa were getting the kids we are right now, we'd be making fun of them BIG TIME, and everyone knows it.

Nobody ever knows how any recruit is going to pan out, but the fact that we are taking commitments from kids that no other school is even showing interest in, kinda worries me. Are we really that desperate this early in the process? I have to think we could get most of these guys at any time if other guys don't pan out.

But what do I know? There's a reason why I'm not coaching college football.

Sweet Lord. Welcome Nigel! Print this thread off and use it as motivation for the next 5 years. After your last game your senior year, you can make an account on CF and anonymously make every ****** on here eat crow.

Good to see Troy Douglas on the board with his first recruit. I think Troy, Wally, and Paul have enough experience and knowledge to know what they want in a DB and this kid must have what they want. Welcome aboard Nigel.

it would be nice to get a highly rated recruit (3-star), just to calm the nerves. It would be like whisky on a sunday morning.

I don't think the NCAA makes him run that time for his whole career. But its easier to put a label on some "accurate" posted time and make it define the kid.

yeah, there is no way he ran a 4.7...those times are meaningless, if he ran a 4.7 he wouldnt be playing D1 football at CB..i mean since they don't even know who he is, how can they know his 40?

We usually get a good amount of players who have zero stars to start out with. They usually end up with 2 and 3 stars after they are evaluated by the Rivals people.
Rivals isn't going to evaluate every recruit. But, they will eventually evaluate all of the one's that commit somewhere.

I for one am amazed at the posters on here that are good enough at football recruiting and coaching D1 talent that they know people such as:

Troy Douglas-Coached 0 star Tracey Porter into NFL DB.

Wally Burnham- FSU National Title. South Carolina D-Coord. South Florida-made relavent. Coached 2 Butkus award winners.

and Paul Rhoads

are all wrong about our recruits and who we should go after. I for one think they seem to have a good handle on what they are doing.

At least I did, until you guys looked at a web page that simplified the ability of players into a brilliant 0-5 star rating system. Rivals if they rated coaches would likely put Paul Rhoads at a 1 star and Charlie Weis at a 4.5 stars. I'd rather have PR be the coach at my alma mater, but if there were some authoritative source to rank him on a 0 to 5 scale I'd absolutely go with that instead of an evaluation of his abilities, ceiling, and performance.

I'm amazed at the posters that refuse to admit that 6 wins is sub-par.

I see your point, but going after guys with no other offers apparently is to say that other, just as qualified coaches were wrong in not going after a kid. I don't doubt CPR and Co. have a great eye for talent, but either we are finding guys no one else knows about or CPR is looking for something different than the majority of other coaches.
