The only "splashy" hire would have been Hornacek, unless there's someone we haven't heard about yet. TJ can recruit, that too me is more important than a guy who had success at the mid major level with guys who'll get run out of the gym in the Big 12.

Don't get the love for Prohm. Never has coached at the P5 level. I'm not for Underwood but at least he has. Prohm is a huge risk - we have no way of knowing if his system can translate to the P5 level, can he recruit P5 talent against other P5 teams, can he manage boosters and outside commitments?

If Prohm, I would rather have TJ. Both are unknowns bug at least he is familiar with ISU, the players, and the system.

I said it last night, and I'll say it again:

We'd all be better off if we were on #teamiowastate instead of trying to get "our guy" (whomever that is in each person's case).

If people think this is of such paramount importance that's fine, but I really don't understand why some are making this experience or lack of it such a big deal.

After all, I'm pretty sure both Tim Floyd and Larry Eustachy didn't have that kind of Power 5/BCS experience before they came to Iowa State and I think we can all agree they both did pretty well, until ambition and personal demons got the best of them.

If you get to use Larry and Tim, I get to use Greg McDermott. Case closed.

The Leath/Pollard thing bothers me. Depending on how this shakes out, it could have long term administrative effects.

We should all be very thankful that Leath is involved. It's pretty clear that Leath saw that outside of being given Fred in his lap...Every other hire by JP has been nothing short of a disaster.

Otz had interviews set for Wisconsin Green Bay and Northern Kentucky. Not even close to a P5 team and Prohm, Underwood and Drew have already proved themselves in similar places. I'm glad there is a thorough search being completed. Hearing Otz would already have the job if Pollard had his way makes me raise an eyebrow.

You guys and you salary comments are a lot like attorneys. No one wants to say "I'll take less money to get to a better firm" because unless they constantly raise their rates people start to think they aren't as good.

The coach's skill doesn't mean they are the highest paid. We all know that's not really how it works. but we feel like we need to offer more and more to get some of these guys. The guy at Murray St, I don't know a thing about him but I do know ISU is a better job. We don't need to come in and offer a huge raise to prove how good we are.

I don't know that he saw that, I think he's been told that by donors. Not saying they're wrong, but I'm not sure Leath went back and analyzed the situation at the time and what happened after, I'm guessing he's getting that from the donors who were there and saw.

I can see both sides of it.

If Leath wants us to play ball we need to be paying our MBB Coach we need to up the salary.

I can see wanting TJ. He knows Fred's system, and style, and is a really good recruiter.

I'm sure Janny and I could team coach for half of what Hornacek wanted, and we'd even bring donuts for the fans.*

*We would not bring donuts for most fans.

Sounds good. BUT we have to keep Otzelberger at assistant. :spinny:

That's fine, but then you can't use Tj's lack of head coaching experience against him. Then it boils down to a group of similar candidates, so let's let the people who conduct the interviews sort out who is the best possible guy.

Obviously interviews always play a big role v in hiring, but I see it being a huge factor in this hire. Simply because there is not one name that just jumps off the page, at least not right now. A name may surface later that'll make you think, 'yeah that guys legit.'

C'mon. If we give him $10 million per year then he will be better than Izzo, Coach K and Coach Cal and Bill Self. The more money we pay our version of Coach Fran McCaffery the better we will be.

He's a good recruiter, he's already here, the players like him and he would keep continuity in the program.

Sounds a lot like Wayne Morgan version II.

Yeah. Let's fire JP. And Hire Barta. Along with our own version of Fran McCaffery. Then we will be set.

How original. Did you think that up yourself, or copy the 10000 moronic posts that said it before?
