*** COACHING SEARCH THREAD: Monday, June 8 ***

If TJ gets the job it was his all along. That or they just asked a few questions in each interview and it lasted about 20 minutes each.

Or he had the best answers in the interview.

You've been saying the same things bashing TJ for 3 or 4 weeks now. Give it a rest.

One of the two is still considered to be engaged.

Regarding Prohm - it's very normal for the list of assistants to circulate (as I said, others are doing so), but unless JP told him in secret that he would be the guy, some of the things that have spread from Prohm's camp are a bit suspect. Just my opinion based on what we know of how things are unfolding.

Interesting. I would think we'd want a guy that was ready to hit the ground running. If you are truly trying to get a job, I'd think such lists would circulate. Plus, I can see the pr reason for it too. We've had 4 weeks of pr for a candidate on here and in the Iowa media.

Like I said many times, if you would listen rather than just type, the lists circulating are normal and not what puts people off. It's the other things that his camp have said that put people off. Yes, lists of assistants are common in these situations and each candidate would have that list available to win over supports and present in their interview. I've seen many of those lists and his isn't even that impressive:wink:

So what if Prohm was claiming the job was his and was circulating assistant candidates.

If we believe that he is indeed the best for the job, I sure as hell hope we don't let our ego in the way of hiring him.

Conducting himself in that way would be an indicator that he may not be the best person for the job. A possible red flag to be considered.

Exactly. But without knowing the exact situation it's difficult.

Please tell me TJs list doesn't include Pat Knight as some have mentioned

I know that Prohm just lost his #1 Assistant to La Tech a month or 2 ago. So the info that his assistant list is not that impressive sounds plausible.

As for salary, people are delusional if they think TJ will make less than $1 mil. And if we hire Underwood/Prohm/Drew, it will be in the upper $1 mil range.

Anyway, I'm ready for this to be over. Unless we have another Hornacek/agent day...then sign me up for another week.

I am sure no formal promise was made to TJ. He probably knew Fred would be leaving sooner or later, and probably figured he'd have a great shot at the job if he were to move back. Heck, we all figured that.

But at this point, I'm confident that ISU has conducted a fair search- even if TJ has been the favorite all along.

He may not be everybody's number 1 candidate, but we can all agree that he's one of the best 2-3 candidates. And even if he's not our personal number 1 candidate, we can all understand why many see him as the number 1 candidate.

This is far from a Pat Knight or Sean Sutton kind of situation.

Forgot to clarify regarding mystery candidates...

1 of the 2 mystery guys is still considered to be in play, but I still think they're a long shot just because of money. It's really hard seeing us go high enough to get him.

I like Underwood's resume. Basically he is TJ plus 2 seasons of highly successful low major head coaching. The only problem I struggle with is in some of his pictures he resembles Mcdermott and he is always screaming. Ok, I know that is very shallow but the emotional scars from McD's era still linger.

Agree with this -- Underwood has the resume' but I am more concerned with the clash of style. I much prefer how Fred was able to lead our program than say, what we see from the eastern school in Iowa. While it'd be great to see us play some better defense, I'm not really a fan of watching the "Frank Martin style" and bringing that here would be a major negative to me.

CW's article had the take I'm most leaning toward -- every single candidate has a known element of risk. A weakness. TJ's is obviously experience leading a program. BUT there is no doubt he can get players here. Give me a guy who can definitely get talent here and the other parts will be a lot easier.

Agreed. There is a process. Doing interviews. Of the known candidates, no one really stands out imo. I'm happy with the process.

Seriously, people will never let this drop. Look, at the end of the day, nobody has to prove anything to you. If you want to think for eternity that this was a conspiracy all along, believe what you want, we're better off spending our energy on other things than trying to convince you.

I believe that Jeremy's policy is not to give out names. IMO, if Pat Knight is on TJ's list that might make TJ's list look not too impressive.

Most of us can, but clearly not all of us.
