Not encouraging.

To whom?

With all the speculation going on on this board, UK and KU looking elsewhere for a big man is as good of news as any for an ISU fan.

Of course I still don't believe he's coming to ISU, I just don't see how this news holds any factor of being encouraging or not encouraging to an ISU fan.

Most likely because the staff doesn't have a staff connection with that player to build a relationship. I am sure if they did ISU would have reached out previously. With Diallo's case ISU had a couple of contacts to (Matt A.) to the NYC AAU circut to get the foot in the door. Programs like KU/UK have the profile to reach out and get a players consideration list with out having a direct connection.

Cincinnati, Miami, Arkansas and Tennessee are all showing interest as well. ISU should be able to reach out to a kid like this. This is the main problem the last couple years. The HS recruiting has been bad.

The thing I appreciate is how there hasn't been any clues. Yes, some teams have had some steam last couple of weeks, but given how both KU/UK have looked at fall backs, could be anyone.

I don't think it's ISU, but at least Diallo has been respectful through the entire process. This announcement will at least be interesting to hear about vs the last one.

I think you are right. However, personally, that would be about the second best outcome as far as I am concerned (next to the good guys, obviously). If ISU is to win a NC, they will have to face KU 2-3 times that will affect their seeding and they will quite possibly have to go through a UK team. Anything that drops them down a notch I am okay with.

I feel like his commitment is coming soon judging by the tweets he sent out last night. I imagine Skal L. from Kentucky recruited him to UK the whole time they were together at the all-star games.

Would be so fun seeing him run the floor for UK

Fun? Dafuq? If he doesn't come here, I no longer have any ****s to give about who he plays for. Once he commits to someone else, he ceases to exists as far as I'm concerned.

Just reading between the lines of Kentucky and Kansas recent looks at big man recruits, it certainly favors St. John's or Iowa State. My gut feeling is St. John's has a legitimate shot at this point. Pure GUT FEELING though. It really is a crap shoot! Like that of the coveted Rashad Vaughn, indicators as to where Diallo is going is being kept really close to the vest.
It's called being prepared for everything and doesn't mean they are less likely to get him than before.

I don't think this is the case... Most if not all ISU's HS recruits have a staff connection built over the years. Monte, SDW, Gibson = Mann, Georges, Ejim, Thomas, Custer = Otz (now Nick N.) Oroko, Sledge = Matt A. (now Diallo). Other than Monk I an not sure of many prospect that the staff started recruiting with out a grassroots staff connection and it was rumored that monk reached out first.

I don't disagree that the staff is rasing ISU's profile nationally and could move up on HS players initial list in the future like CFH has for nationaly transfers. I wouldn't expect this to be the case for a late decommit this year like the post from NC due to the staff shake up late in the year. I also don't think this is a staff issue or that the HS recruiting has been "bad" due to the staff deciding to recruit HS players this way. The past couple of classes have been small due to adding impact transfers and few open roster spots. It has resulted in a top 10 team thus IMO it is working just fine.

Yes, most of our fanbase is made up of folks that went to Iowa State. Aside from these last few years of basketball there really hasn't been much of a bandwagon for Iowa State sports.
Why would a fanbase like ours have any fairweather fans? Most people outside of the state of Iowa still call ISU the Hawkeyes. I find it funny how tuco thinks he knows everything about Iowa State when he doesn't know anything.

I am talking about Iowa residents that did not attend college or who went to a small school that does not have a college basketball team. I would assume that if those people were basketball fans that they would choose to cheer for the local teams even though they did not graduate from one of those schools. Or people who had family members attend ISU but are not graduates themselves. It's not "fairweather" fans, just fans with different ties to the program than just being a grad. I would assume less than half the fan base actually graduated from ISU themselves.
