CBS has us not in

I really don't understand people's obsession with the big ten this year. Minnesota, Illinois, Northwestern should not be in at this point. That is just stupid. I don't think any of them will end up with winning records in their conference. I think 6 teams should go from the big ten and no more.

I think the big 12 will get 5 in with an outside shot at 6, KState being the 6th.

I do, look how bad the Big 12 got screwed in the bowl games this year. This could easily happen to our conf getting bids to the dance too.

Listen, I don't like the idea of B10 having a chance at 9 bids, with such fuzzy-looking conference records. That could sort itself out over the next two weeks anyway.

If you're just comparing team-by-team to Iowa State's resume, we'd have less of a knee-jerk perspective.

Put ISU side by side vs. each of Illinois, Minnesota and Northwestern.

RPI comparison

Point being, if we think ISU has a resume that deserves inclusion (at the moment), I don't see clear indicators that those teams should be "out."

We win 2 out of 5 and 1 in tourney we are in. We win 3 out of 5 and lose in tourney we are in. Win 2 out of 5 and lose 1st round, ill be puckering my butt on selection Sunday but still think we get in with 10 and 8 and most likely 5th in conference. If we stay 4th we are in.

I think some people's lives would be easier if the internet wasn't around. Who cares about one man's opinion? It literally has no effect on what happens the rest of the. If ISU wins some more games, they're in. If not, they're not. It's pretty much as simple as that.

They have us as a 9 seed in their mock selection. This is a selection sunday mimicking process, not some dude picking randomly. There was a committee and they considered things the committee considers.

And from there, things really shouldnt change much, even if we only beat OU\TT. We'd be performing to expectations in our last several games. (It shouldnt be 'expected' for a 9 seed to beat top 10 teams like baylor or mizzou, but we should be expected to beat OU and TTU... and a loss to KSU would be a loss on the road to a tourney team, according to that committee)

What do you expect us to do? Our jobs?
Nah, I'd rather discuss some guy's Cyclone-related opnion that doesn't mattter.

But three Big 10 teams with losing conference records are in?

Exaclty, what a ******* joke. If there is one other thing besides the money, that I wish we were in the Big 10 for, it would be the insane bias that conference gets in the media. I'm thinking that some of that large pool of money is being sent out as checks to reporters. "Don't forget about your buddies over in the B1G!" 9 teams from the B1G? One of them that has one 1 game out of their last 8?

I completely agree with all of your statement, except if we only win 2 more games this season I don't think we'll make it. Unless maybe one of those wins is against Baylor or Mizzou. We could really use another quality win, because we don't have much right now.

That's why the B1G teams are in good shape, even Illinois has beat 2 top 10 teams (at the time of defeat). Gotta have those quality wins

I think people are putting too much value in conference records. I don't think a 10-8 conference record helps you much, if at all. Considering our weak non-conference wins, that doesn't leave us much to stand on. We've really only had 3 good wins, and a couple of moderately bad losses. IMO, we look exactly like a bubble team on paper, which means that it depends on the competition between other teams on the bubble as far as whether or not we are in.

So what in the world helps you? A 10-8 conference record and finishing 4th/5th in the Big 12 should almost always be a lock for the tournament. Conference play should take precedence over early season games as teams have shown their "true form" by then. Of course you can't discount early season games but conference matchups tell the tale.

Agreed. IMO, nonconference should only really matter in helping teams in weak conferences get in, or teams in strong conferences with weak conference records. Teams in strong conference should only need a good enough conference record (which 10-8 is this year) to get in. Way too much importance is placed by some on nonconference records when it is applied to teams in top-tier conferences.

I think you are kind of clueless and if your other posts in this thread didn't already show that, the bolded sentences above do for sure.

Best way to get in is win out. I feel this team will win 3 or 4 more games. They know what is on the line. Allen and SC will realise their time it is running out

I tend to feel the opposite and think ahaselhu has a point. The "10-8 record not helping much" has to be considered in context of the full post: "Considering our weak non-conference wins, that doesn't leave us much to stand on." (Et al) .

I also think ISU looks like a bubble team on paper (but, for now, on the positive side of paper-bubble)
