With Buc-ee's fierce protection of their trademark, I'm shocked they allowed some small rural store in the middle of nowhere Iowa get away with that.
I hear ya, but Buckys was Omaha based and mostly there. Think Council Bluffs was the only place in Iowa with them. More urban than Casey's older model.

I can imagine how almost everyone I know could live to be 1000 years old, use the same bathroom all 1000 years, never clean it one time...and it would still be far cleaner than half of gas station bathrooms and not just slightly less gross, wildly more usable. WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE? It can't just be little kids, it has to be intentional.
We once took a non-stop road trip from Central Iowa to Key West. We hit a truck stop somewhere around Tennessee and I swear the bathroom made "The Worst Toilet in Scotland" from Trainspotting look passable.

I still have a soft spot for Casey’s breakfast pizza. But everything is so expensive it’s tough to justify stopping. Kwik Star is so nice for picking up staples on the way home. BAnd stuff is priced similar to the grocery store rather than the movie theatre. I’ll get bread, milk, bananas to avoid Walmart or Fareway for convenience. And the Kwik Star cookies are so good.
Next time you are there can you pick up some drum sticks, guitar strings and a couple of saxophone reeds for me?

If Kwik Star ever figures out how to make pizza that isn't garbage I will never enter a Casey's again.
Got tired of playing Russian roulette with Casey's gas pumps years ago since half won't actually work but there's no indication of that until you pull up and actually try to use them.
what works less, Casey's gas pumps or the McDonalds ice cream machines?

That’s Trainspotting? Looks like a live cam at the Greenwood in Des Moines.

Once upon a time, I worked for a small company as a team manager. Our cleaning person quit, at one point, and in the time between then and when we hired a new one, the managers were asked to do nightly cleaning.

I can attest that the women's bathroom was significantly worse than the men's. Not even close.

The new cleaning person couldn't get hired quick enough.
My theory is that there are enough people (both men and women) who are toilet shy enough of shitting in a public restroom, like the Finch guy in the first "American Pie" movie, that they only **** in one if they absolutely have no choice. Then after they **** all over the place they just leave it since it isn't their crapper to clean up.

Casey's bought Bucky's. Kum and Go is owned by the same group that owns Maverik. Have only been in a Maverik a couple times but it's as clean as a gas station can be and the chorizo breakfast burritos are better than anything I've ever had at Casey's. Don't think Maverik has made it to Iowa yet.
A couple of K&G stores near me (WDM) have started carrying Maverik branded goods and wearing Maverick t-shirts instead of K&G. The fast food choices have also changed considerably in the last 6 months or so. Guy behind the counter said they are going to rebrand. Probably doesn't know much so take it for what it's worth.

We usually stop at the Casey's in Clear Lake on the way down to Iowa and at the Kwik Star on the way back up - mainly out of habit; easier to just turn right off of the ramp. The Kwik Star is night and day better on all counts. Granted the Kwik Star is newer, but they have pretty much stopped trying at the Casey's.
Aren't there two kwik stars in clear lake just off the interstate? So no matter the direction of travel a right turn will get you to one of them. I dont understand why they did it but both seem to do great business.

No. Kwik Star is east of I-35. Caseys and Pilot are West of I-35.

Last 3 times I went to Casey's has been a nightmare.
First time taco pizza came with no chips on it...
Then next two times they told me 15 minutes I show up 20 and they have no clue about my order. These employees are baked out of their minds.

Unless it has closed since Feb you are incorrect. Go to the 2nd (?) Stoplight turn N KwikStar is there.probably the same distance from the interstate as the one to the east.

Gas station life cycle:
Phase 1 - new build, modern, clean, everything works, best employees to get it started up
Phase 2 - maintained well, employees still have pride and effort
Phase 3 - facilities start to breakdown, lack of reinvestment, employees lose hope, cleanliness takes a dive
Phase 4 - hazmat bathrooms, surly employees, lost cause

Caseys in phase 1 and 2 are fine. Caseys in 3 and 4 are probably worse than I've described above.

Kwik Star is basically in phase 1 and 2 in Iowa as they've expanded a ton the past 5-10 years here. I HOPE they reinvest and keep running it right, but IDK if anyone in the space has ever really done that.
Kwik Star has been in Northeast Iowa for 30 years.

They’ve only gotten better.
