I know Welch Ave Station doesn't fit the mold of the "typical" sports bar, but I watched a ton of away games there when I was in school and it was always packed and a fun environment
Totally agree. It's very well run and some of the bartenders have worked there a long time.

Welch Ave is one of the best sports bars anywhere.

But you can't bring your kids, which is a non-starter for a lot of folks. I get the idea of a place near campus you can take your kids, have a beer, catch part of a game, etc. This exists in literally every other college campus area in the country. Not sure why it wouldn't work in Ames. Es Tas allows your kids to come in, and that place is packed any game weekend. I think there's room for more, personally.

No doubt about it. It's definitely a welcome addition

I like Welch Ave for what it is and the place does it really well. However, it would be nice to have an alternative that didn't leave you feeling like you were hanging out in a dungeon all day and adverse to sun light after spending an extending period of time there.

Sounds cool, hopefully they are allowed to make some nice outside areas.

I must be off, I was thinking that this area was going to be part of a park area or the new Kum Go development. Anybody know what happen to those ideas? Thanks.

Good point. I do seem to recall a plan for moving the gas station across the street.

K&G owns the post office building and the Hardee's/Blimpies/Battle's/Keg Shop/Campustown Liquors building.

I had the same thought - it checks out per assessors site - Kum & Go does not have that corner parcel by north of the post office:

Dang, seems like that happened quick. I'm excited to get back and see all this development going on this year
If you haven't been to campustown in a couple years, you will be pretty surprised. Besides the torn down buildings on Lincoln way, campustown looks great.

Yeah last I was there was Fall 2016, so that doesn't surprise me. I've been loving all the things I've heard about happening and wish they had happened before/while I was there

That fire station building has amazing bar/microbrew potential if they ever move.

Sorry but the City owns the property and if they move the fire station it will probably be combined with Lot Y to make a park/green space. In a City Council meeting about a month ago, the Councilors were discussing closing Chamberlain at Welch to establish a park. A group was recommending Lot Y be converted from parking to park. The Council felt it was too small of space. (This was a change from the Lot X greenspace idea that never got traction).

City feels with the T-Galaxy building becoming a sports bar, they don't need to sell the land for another bar next door.
