*** BYU Pregame Thread ***

Diehard Cougar and lifetime Cyclone fan here.

I grew up in Ames…
Oh, man. Talk about memories!

I knew a few cougars in Ames who were ISU fans, alums and even faculty. Those were the days!

Of course, that was before the term was invente—

Er, just going to say, for no particular reason, if you grew up in Ames in the late Eighties or Nineties…none of them that I knew had kids who went to BYU.

Your classmates, however… ;)

Bruns mentioned the same thing on one of the cyclone Sundays so it’s not just message board posters anymore.
I’m not sure exactly how to respond to this, since I didn’t hear exactly what Bruns said.

I feel a need to point out, from a quick glance, the new names “Out” are walkons, and almost all of the other shifts (aside from Orange) are people getting better.

So lot of talk about how we are handling kick offs. Blum reportedly said Konrady will not be kicking off, which is fine. But Chase Smith is seemingly on the up and up health wise so from that POV I see it as a non issue?

Hopefully Rhodes has been concentrating a lot of his practice time this last couple of weeks with the kickers so maybe his depth, placement and hangtime are improving. It would be nice to not have to use Smith there if both Konrardy and Smith are coming off injury and their status is tenuous.

Vegas doesn't even want bets on BYU winning by anything other than moneyline - or my ap wont take them.
BYU moneyline is +125, BYU -2.5 is also +125 and no higher options available.

If they average less than 7 yards per carry including sacks (which we won't have 1) it will be a complete miracle. A TD on legit every drive for ISU is the bare minimum to win and probably a TO by BYU as well. Even then its coming down to the wire. I just don't see a world where we can win this game

i think thats just your app. i can bet BYU to win all the way up to 23.5 for +1200.

I wont do that, but if i were to place an emotional hedge here, the BYU -9.5 for +340 looks intriguing

We all know injuries are part of the game but this is the second or third time our report has been multiples longer than our opponent. Maybe it is time to starting wondering about the S&C approach? Especially considering last year.
He we go again. BYU also plays a number of older players (who went on mission) that have had a chance to physically develop versus other programs.

I wonder if we are listing everyone from our roster and some programs list from their two deeps or something similar. Not sure how far reaching this report is supposed to be.

Orange absence does not surprise me at all, he's been one of the worst players on the defense since his injury in the Arizona game. He's obviously more seriously injured and honestly the staff trying to trot him out there is kind of crazy

I don’t suppose other teams have three kickers on their list. Or six walkons, counting Konrardy.

I will say, it’s really nice to see Deylin Hasert upgraded. Even if it’s only to Doubtful.

on a positive note we might get Konrardy and Cummins-Coleman back, looks like Gilbert (kicker) is making progress too. Looks like Hansen will be back.

Bruns basically relayed when he was playing Mac had an approach to develop size and explosiveness but after a couple of years of a slew of ligament injuries they refined the S and C process a bit towards injury prevention.

Correlation isn’t causation, and I’m sure S and C has come light years ahead in 25 years.

I know we were also pretty beat up, injury wise, last year. But, my memory (getting old) is such I can't remember the years before last. Were we, also, this beat up?
Not sure about "this beat up" - every team has injuries. I think Colorado's injury list before the game two weeks ago was just as long as ours.

Our issue is more that an entire position group has been waxed due to injuries. Last year it was LBs, this year it's CBs. If we have one LB go down for the year, it's bad but it's manageable. Same with one CB. But when we have the entire position group go down.......
