Re: More kindling for the Bubu dumpster fire...

I don't like this mess any more than anyone else. I also have no well-informed truthful facts or understanding of who's right and who's wrong on so many pieces of this ongoing case/situation. And, I certainly don't know who any people are behind their thread names, whether members of cyclone alley or not. All I do know is that I'm looking forward to going to today's game, want so badly for our team to get a win, and hope to see a typical Hilton atmosphere. Please, no "we want Bubu" chants. I don't know about anyone else, but I don't want this mess to be drug out into Hilton today. I get that the players support getting Bubu back. But, imo, its not fair to the TEAM, and our coach, to put any of that out there. The focus is on cheering on our team to a victory. Our coaches and team deserve that.
This. Plus, to anyone booing ISU in any way - I hope you DIAF. This MBB needs a win today and a solid home court advantage will go a long way toward getting that done.

Re: More kindling for the Bubu dumpster fire...

Go back and look at this board and the thread about the bubu case when it came out. The board was overwhelmingly piling on Bubu (myself included) and the couple people that defended Bubu were chastised by all. Because of the information now known the fan base has flipped in favor of preserving the idea of justice and fairness. Now the couple people that don't care if Bubu is treated fairly are being chastised with good reason. I think you are having trouble disconnecting your own moral beliefs and the CoC and law. Nobody is asking for gladhanding wow. Your view is seriously distorted. Supreme court, district court, ALJ, prosecutors all a bunch of glad handers while Leath is standing up for Justice! Give me a break.

I think most people were baffled by the late suspension of Bubu just because it seemed to be bad timing for the school. But I don't think most people were angry that he was kicked off.

However, the actions of Iowa State since Friday are odd and disturbing. Bubu followed the appeal process that was his right and he has won (so far). That doesn't mean Iowa State was wrong in suspending him, but that does mean that Iowa State now has to pay the price. Just like Bubu had to when Leath made his decision. That's life.

I hope no one boos anyone because it seems as though Iowa State has finally shut up about things and the last thing we need is Pollard or Leath making some stupid *** statement again (EVEN if they are right).

Students might do something. The thing is for us it is a very big deal. It affects every current and future student because it looks to be showing how screwed up the process is. A similarity would be if the US just started punishing people without due process. Whatever your viewpoint is on it you have to look at how it impacts students.

I'm not saying we will or should do something just understand why it is happening.

I wonder if he's just going to ride the bench until the end of the season? Really curious how Fred is going to handle this. Talk about being in an awkward position....

CPR has some big recruits at the game, I would much rather the students do their typical GREAT job by being into the game and not create a sideshow. CPR doesn't need that, Fred doesn't need that and neither does the team. Focus on K-State during the game. Save the commentary for a different time, just my opinion

If recruits are what you are worried about I could see it as a good thing. If I were a recruit I would see it as the students and fans won't let the school take advantage of athletes. I'm not advocating either way I just want people to understand why it might happen.

Also I don't think it would take away focus from the game. If it happens I would expect it pre game or at a dead ball.

I think that the students blowing off steam about this would be a disaster. The negatives would out-weigh the positives. There is so much we all don't know about this situation, so the best thing would be to see how it plays out, and keep quiet about it. Enjoy the game, support the team, and if Bubu plays, support him, even though I doubt that will happen. This is about the team we have, not about Bubu. If he is part of the team, fine, but he is only a part of the team. Ejim has played here four years, without incident, and deserves the greatest respect. The team is more important than Leath, or anyone else.

Re: More kindling for the Bubu dumpster fire...

Bear in mind that it used to be hard to tell that the crowd was cheering for Bubu (fooled more than a couple of sportscasters as I recall). Early on, we used to cheer him onto the court in the same manner that we now cheer Ellerman on. After he earned his scholly, he was still a fan favorite off the bench. And he received a big welcome back last winter.

Most of the mud we are crawling through right now is of ISU's own doing. It began with a bad call by Bubu, but it was exacerbated by ISU. For those of you wishing that Bubu would just "go away", or shut up for the good of the team...if it was your son, and he felt he was falsely accused and unjustly punished, would you give him the same advice? I doubt that I would...

I think this is wise. PSU students were vocal about defending Paterno too. I'm not directly comparing Bubu to Paterno, but speaking out (as in making a scene) without all the facts is not going to help our university or make anyone look good.

Cheering Bubu is no problem for me, it is booing administration, or worse singling out one person that would be a disaster. Ejim has always had a temper, bless his little pea-picking heart. I should mention, that reminds me of me. I was never good at taking crap. Not all of us are dreamy.

1) Why do you assume the ALJ made the right decision and Leath made the wrong one?

2) Do you know what testimony was given? If not, how can you judge whether Leath or the ALJ made the correct decision?

First because he actually interviewed and questioned face to face the people involved, which would give him more credibility right there. And secondly he obviously gave less credibility to the person who had lied to the county attorney and tried to fabricate evidence.

I feel like this is a very minor issue on who you hire as a President of your university. I think he is competent like most people just that someone whose whole job is to deal with these types of things is more qualified.

True.

It may sound like it to some that are looking for controversy, but I think it always helps to cheer people, positive reinforcement. Cheer Leath too. Praise the Creator of basketball! Holy is the game!

Re: More kindling for the Bubu dumpster fire...

Just wanted to remind people that cheering Bubu can sound like booing the administration... :)

It's an emotional issue for the students and while I agree Leath and JP have earned some boos for the way they've handled this case, I hope the students find a way to support Bubu without booing Leath. BuBu has handled this continued chaos in his life with a lot of class, and I hope the students will too.

I didn't know Canadians could have a temper. I kinda always figured he would apologize for posterizing an opposing player while dunking on them or give a quick "sorry bout that" every time he pulled down a board over another player. :jimlad:

Re: More kindling for the Bubu dumpster fire...

Does Leath usually come and sit in his seat just before tip off? If so, yes, I think they should boo him as he walks to his seat.

Then follow that with a "We want Bubu!!!" chant. I think that would be appropriate in this case.

I think this is a great idea! What better way to get into our own players heads than to start a chant about a controversial issue involving their team! Maybe we should throw out a "Canada sucks" chant to screw with Ejim and Long, or "Your dad's dead" chant to get into Kane's head? This stuff will all really help add to the experience of the home team's difficulty in blocking things out!

I think you may have misunderstood what I was saying. When Bubu would come out in the past, fans would cheer: Buuuuuuuuuuubu, Buuuuuuuuuubu, which fooled more than one sportscaster into thinking they were booing something or someone on the court. If we hear that sound, let's make sure how it's intended before we get after the student section (or the crowd in general) for booing an individual. For the record, I DON'T advocate booing Leath, but it wouldn't bother me if the crowd Buuuuuuubus Bubu. :)
