I agree with you. I just looked up ESPN’s recruitment rankings and Iowa State has 3 of the top 15 players from Arizona, which is the most of any school. University of AZ has 2 and Arizona State only has 1. Seems like we have a bit of a desert pipeline.

Shoot, a third of Iowa lives in Arizona from Christmas until April. Practically our backyard.

Did he have offers from either Arizona or Arizona State? I don’t remember hearing of any. I would think coach Herm would have been all over him

This is all speculation on my part, but neither ASU or U of A were in on him early and it seems that there wasn't a lot of interest in either school on Brock's end because he wasn't getting noticed by the in-state schools. His recruiting heated up late, but both Arizona schools made coaching changes this offseason which didn't help matters if they were expecting to get in the game.

Arizona has Khalil Tate returning next year as a junior, as well as having a Tucson kid who had been committed to them forever signing today.

Joiner was a Rich Rod recruit and Sumlin managed to nail down another QB today also, Kevin Doyle who was originally committed to Michigan...

There was a guy on sports radio here in Phoenix today (basically CW's equivalent for ASU) who said that Herm didn't stand a chance with Purdy because ASU wasn't in on him early. He said that the lack of a long term relationship was the main culprit. When asked about ASU's inability to keep Phoenix kids in state, the commentator said that losing Joey Ramos was a better example of a kid that ASU should consider a loss.

Was thinking about our unusual success in Arizona and came across this. No real point. Just think it’s interesting.

So since CW is speculating a redshirt year for Brock does this mean we won't be in on the counciltucky kid for 2019?
Entirely up to Duggan. Good players pick teams with loaded rosters all the time. Does he want to come and win championships with Campbell in front of the best fans in the country? Only he can tell you that.

with all due respect to Brock, when is the last time Iowa State has had a true freshman play QB? I get Re-Al is a crazy good athlete and might see the field this year, but unless Kempt and Zeb go down *knock on wood* I 100% anticipate Brock to redshirt. Going from HS to the Big 12 is a huge transition, which is why Re-Al getting on campus early definitely helps his chances of seeing the field this year, but i'm still not convinced we see a lot of him either.

Agree. With Kempt coming back and Zeb looking just as capable, a true freshman will need to be very good to start at QB. And unless they can play a niche role (like Re-al may do with his speed), if they’re not starting they’re redshirting.

Maybe living in Nebraska makes me overly sensitive to this but " best fans in the country" just makes me cringe. Husker fans and radio personalities say this about themselves constantly and let's be honest, it is not something anyone can factually claim. However, ISU fans are incredibly resilient and loyal. Win or lose we just keep showing up everywhere!

Ya normally it would be too flippant for me as well but I'm pretty sure ISU has the best fans.

Or...there would need to be about two injuries?

Correct, I doubt he plays right away either. And I referenced CW saying a redshirt seems likely. CW also stated that this would "even the classes out", which says to me that since we have 2 QBs coming in the 2018 class that we might be adjusting our thinking for the 2019 class. Which gets to my real question, which is no more Duggan?

Re-al is an athlete, and i think he will end up where he can succeed and best help the team. Could be QB, RB, WR or even DB. Best chance to be the next Lanning - plays on defense, offense, and special teams.

Probably doesn't affect Duggan. You just want to get the best players you can in each class. They'll take a QB in every class. As already mentioned, Re-al will probably see the field this year as an athlete (would not surprise me if he played special teams, WR, and wildcat QB this year).

You guys know it is possible to burn a redshirt right? He can redshirt, then if there’s a few injuries they can play him and he’s no longer redshirting.

It's ok for a recruit to say, a fanbase to say about itself, yah tacky.

Even if Purdy redshirts so his RSF year is in 2019 couldn't Duggan redshirt in 2019 so that they still are not in the same class?
