Brackins

Yes another Craig Brackins NBA thread....isn't this like the 1,000,000,000,000th billion thread of the day about this? Does this seriously need a new thread?

You post threads about stupid *** **** all of the time. Go study for the ACT.

I posted because so many on here think Craig is gone and he's going to go #12, etc.

I personally wouldn't complain about stuff cyismydog. You told us all that Lucca and Eikmeyer could drive, spread the floor, and we'd be running a dribble-drive offense.

You also compared Eikmeyer to Steph Curry lol: http://www.cyclonefanatic.com/forum/mens-basketball/42450-wes-eikmeier-stephen-curry-lite.html

You can complain all you want about my posts, but I don't flat out lie or try to talk about something I don't know to the extent that you do.

I was trying to point out that Craig leaving for the NBA is unlikley. Declaring too early and never getting ready for the league is going to damage your career more than player another year in college..

Chad Ford has him going between picks 20-35 and says he's not a lock for the first round.

If Craig is going to leave after his sophomore year to get drafted in the late 1st or early 2nd round then I've lost respect for him as a basketball player...
So it you had the chance to get millions of dollars, you wouldn't try to get it? I mean I want CB to come back, but if I were in his position i think i would go

So it you had the chance to get millions of dollars, you wouldn't try to get it? I mean I want CB to come back, but if I were in his position i think i would go

Lets look at picks 20-35 from last year:

  • Ajinca - $1.2 million
  • Anderson - $1.2 million
  • Courtney Lee - $1.1 million
  • Koufous - $1.1 million
  • Ibaka - Playing in Europe
  • Batum - $1 million
  • Hill - $1 million
  • Arthur - $977k
  • Greene - $809k
  • White - $964k
  • Giddens - $957k
  • Pekovic - Playing in Europe
  • Sharpe - $442k
  • Dorsey - $816k
  • Chalmers - $700k
  • Jordan - $550k
So you see most of them aren't making $1 mil, but I see your point on making some money, but let's look at this further.

Let's look at the lottery picks:
  • Rose - $4.8 million
  • Beasley - $4.3 million
  • Mayo - $3.8 million
  • Westbrook - $3.4 million
  • Love - $3.1 million
  • Gallinari - $2.8 million
  • Gordon - $2.6 million
  • Alexander - $2.4 million
  • Augustin - $2.2 million
  • Lopez - $2 million
  • Bayless - $2 million
  • Thompson - $1.9 million
  • Rush $1.8 million
  • Randolph - $1.7 million
Now, why would Brackins leave 1 year too early to potentially make $500k when he could play 1 more year and get practically $2 million right away?

Also, many guys with picks 20-35 don't make it. They are on a shorter leash as if they fail after a couple of years, they are out. When you are a lottery pick, a franchise is going to be more patient with you as they are trying to build the team around you.

Again, I realize that all of these amounts are crazy. But it seems to be a no-brainer to make 2-4 times more money by going to college for free and work on your game.

Who cares??? Its a message board. If people don't like the topic, dont respond. Im afraid to even start a thread anymore because you have 20 people come and rip on you for starting it. I think it is intersting where people think CB may go in the draft. There is not a lot else to talk about.

Amen.

Craig will be a lottery pick if he came out this year. His game is good enough

Have you watched the ACC or Big East at all? There are players more NBA- ready than Brackins. Then factor in international players and there's no way he's a lottery pick this year...

You are hitting that Kool-Aid WAY too hard.

It all depends on the assumptions one makes.
You are working on the assumption that (1) Brackins would go late first round or second round, and (2) that he would be a lottery pick if he stayed another year. If your assumptions are indulged then I think most people would agree with you that Brackins should stay another year.

But, these are not air tight assumptions. If I were Brackins I would probably declare but not get an agent so as to test my draft stock. If he would be a lottery pick this year then he should go. The assumption that his stock would go up with another year in college is also not obviously true. As many people have pointed out in other threads, the NBA tends to draft on potential, and Brackins is showing a lot of potential. If his progress from this year to next is not significant then his stock could go down even if he becomes a slightly better player. One freak injury could also destroy his stock. It's also not like a player stops improving as soon as they leave college.

I suspect that your assumptions are correct, as most mock drafts still don't project him as a lottery pick as far as I can tell. I also think he would get a lot more spotlight and pre-season hype if he returned next year. But, I certainly wouldn't lose respect for Brackins if he evaluated his situation differently. He is in a better possition than any of us to do so.

I get what you're saying on most of this. I will also say the NBA will eat you alive if you aren't ready. Before this year, we didn't even know if Brackins could be consistent for 30 games or so. Do you think he could be for 82 games?

Also, he'll be going against top quality night in and night out even if he plays. If he isn't ready, he'll sit on the bench for a majority of the games. I think a player improves by playing in game environments as opposed to getting limited minutes (if any) against top talent.

You should see how many guys who get drafted late 1st and/or early 2nd round that do not make it at all.

The NBA isn't like the NFL where guys get drafted whereever and work their way up. The NBA wants it NOW otherwise you're playing overseas. If that's your ultimate fate, then better off making $2 mil for a few years than $500k for a few years. Also, if you're a $2 mil guy, they will give you more opportunities than a $500k guy.

I just have confidence that if Craig can work on his outside shot where he can hit it more consistently and get bulk up a little so he doesn't get pushed around by all Big 12 (or lower) talent. If he's getting pushed around in NCAA what do you think will happen against all-NBA talent?

I think he could have a good pro career if he worked on his game. Look at Blake Griffin. He could've gone last year, but his improvements this year earned him more $$ and a higher pick for next year.

With Beasley, it was clear that he needed a lot of work on his game as well, but since you aren't going to do better than 2nd pick and $4 million I can see why he would leave.

The truth is Craig could get in a better position next year if he improved without a doubt. You don't play thinking about getting injured anyways. If he was smart, he'd have an insurance policy on his body in case he did get injured in college.

a) We already have a ton of CB to the NBA threads, so why make another one, especially since that could end up costing Jeremy money, with up-grading the server, etc. etc.
b)Lucca has a knee injury, and can dribble drive, as can Wes, but Wes has been injured all year. And yes, I still believe he has a very similar game to Stephen Curry
c) We have run aspects of the DDM all year
d) Why study for the ACT? I got a thirty five on all my pre ACT practice tests, so there's no reason to study.

I found the money numbers above interesting. Made me wonder about the number of minutes a player gets when they go to better teams later in the draft. I went back to the 2006 draft. I am somewhat surprised there are not more with less than 10 mpg. Looks like 2006 had a lot of good bench players, just a few starters.

this year's mpg

1.Andrea Bargnani (Italy) 30 mpg
2.LaMarcus Aldridge (Texas) 36 mpg
3.Adam Morrison (Gonzanga) 8 mpg

6.Brandon Roy (Washington) 37 mpg
7.Randy Foye (Villanova) 36 mpg
8.Rudy Gay (UConn) 37 mpg
9.Patrick O'Bryant (Bradley) 4 mpg
10.Saer Sene (Senegal) waived 2/19/2009
11.J.J. Redick (Duke) 18 mpg
12.Hilton Armstrong (UConn) 15 mpg
13.Thabo Sefolosha (Switzerland) 17.1 mpg,
14.Ronnie Brewer (Arkansas) 31 mpg
15.Cedric Simmons (N.C. State) 4.5 mpg

You are hitting that Kool-Aid WAY too hard.

1/2 the people on this board think I am a hater of all things ISU and 1/2 the people think I drink the kool-aid :biglaugh:

I guess that means that I am a realist and see it as it is

My question to you is this, how is my comment about Brackins being a lottery pick so out of line, when 3 different websites have him in the top 15?!?! I must not be the only person who sees him as being a top teir talent

Craig Brackins has a lot better resume than LeMarcus Aldridge did when Aldridge left early and was selected 2nd overall. It is all about potential. Criag has a lot and he is 6'10. Those make him an NBA lottery pick

You would seriously lose respect for him? Wow! You need to get a life!

I want him here all four years just like everyone else, but I'm not sure how easy it is to turn down MILLIONS of dollars. I've never had to, and I'm sure you never have either.

amen. i also think that this years draft class is garbage, and craig would benefit by leaving after this year. looking at that mock draft, and i've never heard of half those guys. i've been saying it since the start of the season that he would leave after this year, and was called crazy then by most. now i'm probably still called crazy by half. i hope i'm wrong and he stays, but to say he shouldn't or that it would be a bad move for him at this time is foolish and comes off that you are convince yourself that what you are saying is true.

The reason why you haven't heard of half of those guys is because you don't watch basketball. If you've watched any Big East or ACC basketball, you would've heard of most of these players...

You seriously want to compare Brackins to Aldridge? Aldridge almost declared for the NBA draft after high school. He was a McDonald's All American. He also was player of the year in high school basketball in Texas.

I know Brackins was a top 20-50 (depending on the site) guy, but he just doesn't have the high school resume that Aldridge had.

Aldridge is also a much better defender than Brackins and has great footwork in the post. Brackins can improve in these areas drastically.

Overall, Aldridge not only has the potential but he also was a better player than Brackins at all stages of their careers so far. He waited two years to go pro, and now he's getting paid $4 million a year.

Brackins could go now, but if he wanted to become a great player, he'd stay and develop.

DraftExpress has Brackins at #22 and in their profile of him, they say he needs to work on his post game, and defense. They also said that he should probably stay another year.

I watch a lot of NBA and I just know that Brackins isn't at that star-level yet.
