The bird id app i installed saiid a summer tanager. The bird was there early spring so not when the internet says the scarlette tanager molts. The tan spot on the back of the head made my parents think it wasn't a tanager
Like someone else said, location would help. I went with Scarlet Tanager assuming you are in Iowa. That would be the more common bird in that case. Here's another pic of a molting scarlet tanager that's looks quite a bit like yours.

Upgraded camera lens a bit. Been resisting a big camera upgrade and told myself this was enough until I am sure this isn't just a short term hobby (I tend to have many short hobbies).

I braved the heat to take a few shots. At the end I felt just like the squirrel in that last picture.

Orchard Oriole was at Eddyville Sand Prairie. Cool spot for those that haven't been there.

I saw my first Eastern bluebird last weekend near Strawberry Point. Bigger than I thought and prettier than I thought. He was showing off for us.

All pics good. Squirrel pic made me laugh. My favorite of the set.
