I flat refuse the argument that our choices are a coach with "baggage" or 4-12.

We can win with integrity.

Outside of (unproven) Wes Johnson allegations, what rules has he broken? If he really does have his personal **** back together, where is this big lack of integrity?

Some of you seem to think we are hiring this guy to babysit your kids. That is incorrect. We are hiring him to coach basketball.

I guess the holier than thou crowd who rip on anyone who has ever made a mistake don't like him.... but lets be honest, who cares?

The rest of us are just looking for a good basketball coach, not a role model or someone we can use to brag about how clean our program is while we finish at the bottom of the Big 12 year after year.

Gillespie would be a great hire. If only your looking for a coach with zero baggage, we'll end up with another Gmac who consistenly goes 4-12.

The only one who I think would have hurt enough feelings over it to prevent the hire would be the one who has to get fired for it to happen.

Billy was also probably put under enormous pressure by UK AD and also UK fans, he was desperate to win and went after wes because of it.

But, to reiterate my claim, if Mac is fired and Gillispie hired, I would not have one problem with it. In fact I would be super excited.

I agree. I have been feeling this way too about all the defections. Time to blame and can the real problem- Greg McDermott.

Bingo. I have been saying it all along, it is easy for Coach Mac to get us to feel sorry for him, acting as though he has been blindsided by all these defections. The saying "Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me" is fitting for this situation. Do all of you really believe that these defections are a result of bad luck? While there is a slim possibility that Greg has ran into a string of bad luck, wouldn't the more obvious explanation that either: 1) His coaching style and his approach to working with these kids is ineffective and is driving players from our program and/or 2) He has whiffed on several different recruits brining them into a level of basketball they cannot be competitive at.

If I were golfing, and I 3-putted every green, I could say it was bad luck. Putts were lipping out, a putt didn't break the way it should have, ect. But at some point, I would have to realize after 18 straight 3-putts that maybe I just suck at golf.

At the end of the day in the world of college basketball it is all about results. Look at Calipari.... Everyone knows the guy is an absolute cheater and probably one of the worst in the history of college basketball but his national reputation is pristine. ESPN loves him, CBS loves him, every basketball announcer goes down on him like they do Tim Tebow. Gillespie has done nothing even remotely close to be in the same league as a snake like Calipari yet people act like his reputation is absolutely ruined forever. Look.... If Calipari hasn't ruined his credibility nationally yet then there is NO WAY Billy Gillespie has. :biggrin:

IMO, No. I'm not in the camp of "stealing" players from other Programs but if a coach can convince a player to come to their program without "breaking" any rules then this is a guy that I want running my program.

If this requires tampering then I am against it.

I agree 100%. Defections at the start of GMac career at ISU could be explained by the coaching/style of play change (see taggart) but c'mon how long does he get to keep using the excuse of "bad luck". At some point it has to fall back on him. I mean Stieger left for what to play like 3 min for the team he went to. It is obvious to me the Gmac is DRIVING players away, players are not just leaving.

I'm not so sure about that. If he has the Big East player of the year with Pat Patterson. They might not be as good as they are this year with Cal, but they still would be a top 10 team.

Just to clarify for everyone, the seciont you pasted in isn't from the cyclones.com article.

Do you really think that Wes is going to come out and say that Kentucky was his first choice with all that was going on and the fact he wasn't released there anyway? Not to mention I have heard murmurs in the past (take it fwiw)that had Wes tried to go to Kentucky then ISU would've acted on the "tampering" of Kentucky through the NCAA.

But with all of this evidence, why not turn them into the NCAA anyway? Who cares, the kid is gone, but if this happened then why on earth not alert the NCAA?
