Barnett to start against Texas Tech

half drunk idea:let barnett play for the first half and jantz work his late game magic the second? implied jimlad.

Texas Tech is not a gimme game that's for sure.

This is true. I believed at the beginning of the season if this team was going to go bowling that they had to at least go 1-3 against the Texas schools. So far ISU is 0-3, but this is mostly likely the "weakest" Texas school. If the Clones can't pull it off against Texas Tech then they are staying home for the holidays again.

The injury has to be affecting Jantz terribly. Somewhere along the way, he just looks like a guy whose confidence is shot, like he doesn't know if he can get the ball to the right guy or make moves with his feet.
Outside of the 1st quarter of each game, he shows those abilities. A lot of it is probably in his head.

But right now, Barnett is clearly the right choice. If our receivers brought hands to the game, he would really have looked sharp.

Tech will smoke our *** next week. One more win and that is not even a given. **** it who cares.

Never disputed he is the leading receiver on the team. He is not the most consistent/reliable. Huge upside...just does not always bring it. That's not smug, it's fact.

You are absolutely correct about this! And definitely entitled to you own opinion/assessment!! No worries here.

Money knows he didn't play well, the receivers as a whole under performed except Lenz!! Several guys stated that its difficult to come out flawless with Barnett when Steele takes majority of the snaps in practice. Its a timing thing that will be better this week, I'm sure!!!!!

Defenses get gassed and can only do so much when they are on the field as much as our Defense is.

But they're on the field because they can't get it done. Today's defensive collapse happened while the offense was working effectively (unless you're thinking that 3-and-outs wear out a defense).

Last week, the defense collapsed from the very start. The DL simply can't get it done, and the defensive collapses really start right there.

The separation our receivers got today seemed worse than any other game this season. That had been an improvement this year over the last few...but a step back today.

Wasn't much space to fit the ball in today. With A&M being such a poor pass defending team, that was a disappointment.

No team in the country has guys running wide open. This meme is getting really old. The difference QBs make the tough throws The early throws by Barnett are what make successful passing attacks. There arent ever going to be guys running open by 15 yards unless there is busted coverage

Not to be a **** but timing has nothing to do with dropping a football that hits your hands. Timing didn't cause Money to miss footballs, nor did it cause Horne to drop a pass my mom could've caught.

Jantz has way more upside, Barnett makes far less mistakes.

We haven't seen the end of this battle.
I'm not saying you're wrong, but I'm just curious as to how you concluded that Jantz has way more upside. None of us can predict the future, and you may be right on, but I think Barnett has played very well, all things considered.

The sample size is so small on Barnett, but the differences that I see at this point would be that Jatz can probably improvise better when a play breaks down, but Barnett seems to be less mistake-prone and possibly more accurate. (Again, the sample size is small, which makes this a difficult exercise.) Assuming for now that the strengths and weaknesses cancel out, I feel that Barnett's status as a redshirt freshman possibly gives him the edge on upside.

Before Jatz was recruited, I picked Barnett to beat Tiller outright as Arnaud's replacement. He was the first QB recruited specifically to Herman's system, and he was frequently identified as the most accurate passer in practice reports. These two things, mixed in with a RS learning season and Tiller's limitations, made me confident that Barnett would have a good shot to be #1.

That's where he sits now. Unfortunately, it has a lot to do with Jatz's struggles. I agree with you that this battle may not be over (although I will lean more towards rolling with Barnett for the remainder of the season if we lose next week), but I'm not convinced that Jatz has a higher ceiling.

And, looking to next season, what about Mr. Sam Richardson?

No one is asking for wide open. But the gaps between receiver and defender today were especially narrow.

ESPN must not like Reynolds too.

Touchy group. Certain players are protected species while guys like Jantz can be ripped on without mercy.

Not helping yourself. That article was wrong, it was Horne that dropped the pass late in the half. Reynolds was along the sidelines early in the game. I'm not a Reynolds fan but you are hung up on him.

I think the only reliable receiver we have is Lenz. The INT on the first drive was not his fault, as the throw was too high. Darks is not an impact player at all like we all wanted him to be. Reynolds is good in spurts, I don't even know what is up with him....looks great sometimes, and then terrible sometimes, I think we all know that he is frustrating to watch. I didn't have a problem with Horne until today, he dropped that picture perfect deep pass down the middle and got alligator arms. I yelled at the TV after that.....very frustrated.

Thought Barnett played well today, is much more accurate than Jantz and obviously takes care of the ball better (though the fumble recovery was lucky, shoulda tucked that one better). Also think he needs to learn how to slide, he took some shots today and will eventually end up getting hurt if that keeps happening.

Still very frustrated with the defense, mainly the DBs. Not in play but in actions. Johnson, Benton, Reeves, all celebrating after giving up first downs or breaking up a single pass. Just play, it's not like you stopped the drive or had an INT. And Washington, when he kicked the ball, that was so dumb.
