Barnett to start against Texas Tech

I don't like the stter being named right now. Start whomever has the best week of practice. If Barnett grabs the reigns and goes, run him. If Jantz gets back to his old form, give him a look.

agree 100%. why say anything to the media at this point. i would think it would further take the wind out of Jantz' sails and I would think you'd want both guys improving.

I have to disagree here. I think you need to send a message to the team that you are firmly behind whomever is going to be your starting QB plus whoever your starter is needs to get most all the snaps with the first team during the week. This is especially true since its Barnett and he will need all the snaps he can get in practice this week. I like the immediate announcement.

Personally I'm a little more excited for Rohach.

Would be shocked if he plays next year. There is potential for a 3 horse race at QB with Jantz, Barnett, and Richardson though. Barnett could shut the door on it in the 5 remaining games though.

Barnett has earned the start. Ride that horse right now. Jantz either needs to heal or get his head screwed back on straight.

Barnett looked good to me today.

What's Jantz's old form? To me he has been good for one game and about 2 other quarters. He really hasn't been good. I thought Barnett was impressive in how he made decisions and didn't get into deep trouble. I think, with Steele we never would have had a chance in the 4th. At least Barnett had us in a position where we could make it a game. I like naming Barnett.

I doubt it. I could really see us not knowing who will start until the same time we did this year, if not later. Richardson is pretty damn good.

I do really think Jantz's ankle is hurting him more than he is telling people. He is afraid to run now, his velocity is off on his throws. It really looks like he is just tossing it up with no spin on the ball. It has to be that ankle that he plants on.

I liked what I saw out of Barnett for the most part. He seems to throw on schedule and with accuracy. I think it cannot be understated how important the accuracy is. I've been frustrated for years that our team "yac" lags far behind other teams. And that stat falls mostly on the qb throwing a catchable ball which allows the receiver to do something with it. I think a week of film should also help JB clean up a few errors as well. Looking forward to watching him play next week.

Oh I agree. He'll probably redshirt and not play next year like Richardson did for this year. But from the little I have heard, he sounds like he could be a traditional Big 12 QB that could really help ISU. But we'll see what happens in the future.

As someone else said, QB isn't the issue. Jantz needed to see the bench today, but im not convinced he's done at ISU. That guy who was incredible in the 4th quarter of uni, against iowa, and last three quarters of uconn is still there.

I think running is such a big part of his game, and ever since his foot got injured, he hasn't been the same guy.

I doubt it as well, but Barnett now has the reigns in his hand and has the opportunity to make himself the starter for the forseeable future. Finish the season 5-0 with 80% completion percentage and I think he's probably got it.

Yup. Because then we wouldn't have a 2nd string if Barnett ever got hurt. Yup waste of space. Good one Greg. Yup. Woo. Good post. :jimlad:

I don't know how Greg hasn't been banned yet. The guy is a troll. (Claims he's a realist though.)

Barnett was a little indecisive and made some bad reads. Even while running, for example they did that QB draw and Barnett gets a great block from White to spring him free if he continues to the right. Instead, Barnett cuts left right into the guy White just blocked and pursuit comes to finish him off. Long ways to go, but he's still young.

Always got the feeling that with Jantz' ability to shake off what happened to him, comes with the fact that he doesn't get emotionally invested into anything. Hence why he looked like he didn't care. I'm sure he does care, he just doesn't let it bother him. Wish he would've been helping Barnett too. And I wonder if some of these receivers like Jantz over Barnett as an individual. Seemed that way on the sidelines.

Barnett seems to be a little more vocal in the leadership department over Jantz.
