Everybody gloating about his ability, his 6-4 frame and throwing arm. However this caught my eye: has trouble "under duress." Can you imagine how he would do under pressure of a Big 12 or SEC defense instead of division 3 high school kids? If you take the Manning name away, would his grade change?

Anybody surprised?? The mannings have always whored themselves for money. Just following the family path.
And some of the best commercials have come from Peyton. Him and Eli kill the awkward white guy role. I'd take the money too.

Absolutely. I assume it's part of the reason they chose Sark, perhaps they think he'll be able to improve this. But make no mistake, Sarkisian is taking a risk with Manning.

Maybe, but not much. He has a perfect rating which has only been given 5 times prior https://247sports.com/Sport/Football/AllTimeRecruitRankings/

The media attention that comes along with the name is what adds to it.

Maybe, but with who is grandfather and uncles are, I would bet he is very well seasoned not only physically but mentally on how to play the position.
His skills of most athletes get them so far, the rest is work ethic and how fast you see the situation, and that means repeated reps, and one would have to think, this kids skills would be off the charts in the regard.

Right. And if his name was Arch Schmuckatelli would he get a perfect rating? I'm certain the kid is a great talent but if you have trouble "under duress" in the SEC no amount of arm talent or throwing accuracy is gonna help you. We'll see, I wish the kid the best and maybe I'm in the minority but the Mannings seem like good people to me. Also, UT is a great school crawling with hot co-eds. It'd be an easy decision for me if my intention were to be an NFL qb...

Maybe not, that was my point. But do you really think it would drop him from the 5 star category? Anecdotal evidence of him being not so great under duress on CF isn't going to sway my opinion. LeBron is the most hyped high school athlete of all time, lived up to it and then some and his kid is only a top 40 player.

As far as risks go, I'd imagine taking a "risk" on the top rated recruit is among the easier ones to explain to your boss if it doesn't work out.

Testifying
Ole Miss with Lane would have been a good idea but that would have put a lot of historical pressure on him.

I remember us trashing a guy named Patrick Mahomes a few years back to the tune of 60-something to 10. We’ve beat Texas 3 years in a row.
It would be nice to give another legendary QB a beat down they’ll never forget before Texas leaves.

Sark had had several QBs go pro but have very many actually performed there?
Compare the qbs Sark coached against other schools over the same time period.
Ohio State? Sark's guys have had better pro careers.
Alabama? The few decent pros they've had were Sark's guys. Outside of that, not much.
LSU? Joe Burrow is one, but nobody else.
Notre Dame? Not even close.
Oklahoma? Now we're talking. Kyler Murray, Baker Mayfield, Sam Bradford, Jalen Hurts. Decent careers. Nothing to sneeze at.

My point is, Sark's track record with quarterbacks is every bit as good as the best, and is a lot better than most. It's not so hard to see why a QB prospects with sights set on the pros would consider him. He's proven time and again that he gets quarterbacks to the pros
