Seeing ND recruits tweeting voicing their support for Freeman, hopefully a good sign.
One posted a pic with him and said "WE WANT FREEMAN"

If Fickell is signing an extension I really hope ND goes with Freeman.

New big 12 with Campbell, Aranda, Fickell, Gundy would be very fun.

All great points.

With ND on the cusp of the playoffs, you'd also think those players have at least some voice (granted, could do an interim through bowl type of deal with Freeman, too)

I know nothing about ND and their overall culture, but I was thinking last night i wonder if they tried to counter with Kelly? he is their winningest coach and you'd think they would try to retain. I say that as I would also guess they could get Freeman for a hint cheaper than having to roll out the trucks like USC/LSU just did (and likely more of a value than CMC)

Kelly didn’t give them a chance to counter

I know we will never get the TRUE behind the scenes of it all. But I would LOVE to be able to now what CMC's life has been the last week or so.....chats with his family...who is calling him or people associated with him.....what are his staff talking about....what is HE thinking when he sees his name all over the place (does he even care....does a staffer keep him up to date, etc). Fascinating.
Well..I do know that hes been texting with some of the coaches. Mostly about schedules and other 'ordinary type' stuff. No word on anything major...

Malzahn is a big name too.

The Big 12 3.0 is going to be wild.

According to reports, no. They had no idea. Kelly came and said he was leaving and the deal was done. Never gave them a chance to counter.

First they knew according to ND AD was when it was already a done deal.

Under the heading The Big 12 is dead:
When Oklahoma and Texas unexpectedly … Oklahoma State … Cincinnati … Bob Bowlsby … The Longhorns… The Sooners … Karma.

Another heading below that: Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Longhorns show how quickly the tables can turn

Those four are special. Leipold is already the best KU coach since Mangino. Sitake at BYU could be great. And when you are talking about Malzahn at UCF or Dykes at TCU as bottom half of the league coaches, your league is stacked.

Basketball is even better. New Big 12 is highest rated in KenPom and that still includes data from last year.

The ND Athletic Director also said he wasn't surprised by Kelly leaving. He said Kelly made a couple 'slips of the tongue" during the season that he was interested in a new challenge.

Seems to me ND is a burn and churn type job. Kelly might have been their longest tenured coach in last 50 years.

The new big 12 is gonna be fun. The battle will be the ESPNs of the world trying to diminish the conference without Texas and Oklahoma.

He's smart to stay here. He goes 7-5 after being pre season ranked in the top ten and media and fans still adore him. Try that at Notre Dame or USC and your gone in 2 seasons. It's why Kirk never left.
So does he want to be here? If so, Wouldn’t a deal be done by now?

He will go to ND if offered, I just don't think he would be offered. Don't get me wrong, he would kill it there, but they want Fickell, but if he doesn't come, they will settle for Freeman. CMC is option #3, so highly unlikely he leaves.

And Freeman's not a guarantee to take it, and it sounds like Fickell already signed an extension.

It's just a bit curious that the same sort of news hasn't come out for CMC.

Gonna have to trust that Pollard has a plan for what's next if this actually happens.
