I disagree. Even if Kelderman is spelling Lipsey and is more of a true PG, he is an also a token walk on. When he was out there it was; don’t turn the ball over, get the ball out of your hands ASAP when you cross half court, and try to stay in front of your man on D

If Nojus was unable to replicate that with a higher ceiling, then I expect him to transfer during the offseason
They didn't need a higher ceiling yesterday. They needed someone who knows the defense.

If you think "try to stay in front of your man" is Iowa States defensive philosophy, you haven't watched much Iowa State basketball the last 4 years.

Dude went off yesterday... also had 40 vs Alabama earlier this year

To be fair, Alabama's defense is basically a set of traffic cones

He hasn't played a lot, but JT Rock looks the part in his limited minutes of a long defender who can protect the rim, but also have the physicality to be a solid rebounder.
He’s got to come through with a name like that.

Could Nojus transfer? Sure could. So could Tamin. So could anyone.

I just think it’s kind of crazy that everyone is dead set on freshman leaving after:

1. He’s stuck behind 3 guards that will have been all-conference at some point the last two years.
2. Didn’t come in to play a position he doesn’t/hasn’t played.

He very well could know that PT is on its way next year.
He’s actually behind a walk on

Hope I'm wrong but Nojus feels a lot like Paveletzke last year. Lots of talk about his role next year only for him to be gone the moment the season was over. There's just not a high occurrence of freshmen not playing and sticking around.

"But Nojus isn't a PG, that's why he's not getting minutes with Keshon out"
Yeah, and Nojus was a top 100 recruit and not a walk-on. Very telling if he's not getting minutes over Kelderman.

That said, I've been really impressed with the spot minutes Kelderman has given us the last couple weeks.

IDK. Paveletzke seems like writing was on the wall by the start of a February he wasn't a guy who was going to be able to thrive in the Big 12. My opinion at least. His transfer may have surprised me less than anyone, almost ever, from Iowa State.

Jelani Hamilton was a little more surprising to me, given that he was already redshirting and a legacy recruit.

Nojus is big, stronger and more athletic than Pav.
Maybe Nojus leaves.
Maybe he fills Jones' role next year, offense off the bench (with Heise starting).

Agree

Cade being a pg is why he’s playing when Lipsey is out

It’s not why Nojus gets ZERO minutes when Gilbert is out. Instead we play guys 35+ minutes in a game that wasn’t exactly in doubt. Or just 2 minutes when Gilbert and CuJo are both out

Or why he’s getting under 5 minutes in buy games, even a DNP

And Pav this year in the MAC put up 14, 5 & 4 for a pretty bad Ohio team - he only shot 32% from 3, taking < 2 per game - he was much more of a slasher

Hamilton as a freshman this year put up 11ppg on 33% three-point shooting for a bad Georgia State team

I didn't realize that Omaha came back for WF's last 8 games - but he didn't play much. He did have 7&5 in their last game against Georgia Tech.

I'm hoping for this as well. I can't remember if I said it in this thread or elsewhere, but watching Nojus highlights was the most excited I've been for any of TJs high school recruits so far

Just look at this way, every college team is going to reshuffle the deck every year now. (at least the one trying are).

With the upcoming tournament the phrase "these guys grew up together" can be forever retired to the history books.

To an extent, yes, but some people act like everyone on the bench that didn't get minutes are automatically out. That's not the way it will happen, and doing that is bad for continuity.

When Nojus was playing more often in non-con (including Maui) he looked very capable on offense, shot just wasn't falling. TJ has made it very clear that he cares most about defense, which is probably why Kade has been getting more PT of late. If Nojus can get up to speed on defense, I think he could be a very good player for us next year.
