2025 MBB Coaching Carousel

Willard official now.

It'll be interesting to see how Willards negative review of the program impacts this search. They're going to have to make a lot of promises and throw a lot of money around to prove him wrong. If wasn't long ago Maryland was a big time basketball school, this move will tell a lot about how much they still care.

Seen Indiana fans online wishing they got McCollum.
I think some of that's from the Dakich base. He really pushed for him and called him the best coach in the country. Dakich is wrong a lot though hopefully not on this though.

I think it'll be Tony Skinn from George Mason.

What happened at Maryland is exactly why as much as I hate NIL and the transfer portal, I won’t hold it against the players for looking out for their own anymore.

I’d like to say Maryland is going to come out better from this (and considering all those Big 10 TV dollars and donors they have they probably will be)… but holy hell the former MBB coach burned practically the entire AD to the ground, AND THEN left. It disgusts me because if that kind of thing ever happened at ISU it’d take decades for the AD to recover, if ever. The AD had a hard enough time trying to survive in the wake of what Brandstadt and Hayden Fry did to the university as a whole back in the 1980s… and to an extent to this day ISU still suffers from that.

Interesting article about what went down at Maryland.

It's always back to several fundamental aspects during the hiring process:
1. Did the administration hire the right person? Did they do their homework what kind of person he/she is (not just as a coach but as a human being) ?
2. Did the coach really want to be there?
3. Was the administration honest enough during the interview process with the prospective coach regarding the state of the funding, NIL, etc? Was the idea/vision shared and agreed with the coach?

Add another one
1. Does the administration have a contingency plan in case the Athletic Director leaves? Does the administration have the list of candidates they need to pursue immediately to avoid creating power vacuum in the Athletics Department?

Didn't think Maryland did their homework....
