I don't know the particulars of this situation, but programs that do this are generally worthy of being championship cursed, IMO.
I'm pretty sure he was already on the hot seat before they had a magical run in the conf and NCAA tourneys. Getting hot for several games isn't a reason to keep someone
After finishing 10th in the ACC and pulling a UConn to even make the tournament. It’s a terrible look, but, excluding his first season there, NC State has been mediocre to bad.
It mostly shows how luck goes a long ways in the tournament.
He would have been gone had they not won the ACC Tournament last year. That fluke run last March got him another two years owed, but I’m guessing their fans would take that trade every time
3 tournaments in 8 years, with one being via the inexplicable auto-berth.

He was, but I would think that that kind of run would buy him some more time. Seems a little rushed, IMO.
And a 15th and 16th place finish the last 4 years with two teams that just barely made the tournament at the 10 and 11 seed lines in between.
The final 4 run was for sure fun for the fans, but firing decisions are based on expected future results, and that 4 year stretch isn't indicative of long term success. Can't expect the kind of luck they had last year to repeat itself.
Had there been a line during the Final Four that he would get fired next year, I would have hammered it
It reminds me a bit of March 2019 with Prohm and whether to extend him. He did win the Big 12 Tournament and we also received a berth for the 3rd time in 4 seasons under Prohm. But I definitely would have been fine for Bama to take Prohm, particularly if paying a buyout.
Am I missing something with his appeal? He is 168-148 in ten years at ASU and just moved to a tougher conference where he got destroyed. He hasn't done anything in the tournament ever. Wasn't his team a hot mess with headbutting and wanting to fight people? How exactly does he recruit when he is on the final year of his contract with no future. I would assume he reaches a lot on one year rentals.
He would've already been fired if his name wasn't Bobby Hurley.
IIRC he was about to be fired at end of last year regular season and then they went on a run
